Job Description

Fueled by a fundamental belief that having access to financial services creates opportunity, PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL) is committed to democratizing financial services and empowering people and businesses to join and thrive in the global economy. Our open digital payments platform gives PayPal’s 210 million active account holders the confidence to connect and transact in new and powerful ways, whether they are online, on a mobile device, in an app, or in person. Through a combination of technological innovation and strategic partnerships, PayPal creates better ways to manage and move money, and offers choice and flexibility when sending payments, paying or getting paid. Available in more than 200 markets around the world, the PayPal platform, including Braintree, Venmo and Xoom enables consumers and merchants to receive money in more than 100 currencies, withdraw funds in 56 currencies and hold balances in their PayPal accounts in 25 currencies.

The Web Copywriter role reports into the North America small business marketing team. In this role, you'll be responsible for creating SEO-friendly website content on our merchant-facing properties. That means you'll work closely with our SEO and website teams not only to identify content gaps, but also to help fill them. You need to love writing all types of web content (and lots of it) - from basic SEO ranking factors (page titles, meta descriptions, h1s, alts, anchor text, etc.) to new website copy, articles, and video transcripts. You'll also manage an editorial calendar and the workflow for creating new content - whether you write it yourself or work with an agency partner.

You’ll be part of the PayPal North America small business marketing team, a fast-growing group that, among other things, is responsible for defining and delivering simple, compelling offerings to small businesses.

Our team creates all merchant-facing content to support the business’s growth objectives across acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention. In this role, you’ll be responsible for creating SEO-friendly website content on our merchant-facing properties. That means you’ll work closely with our SEO and website teams not only to identify content gaps, but also to help fill them. You need to love writing all types of web content (and lots of it) – from basic SEO ranking factors (page titles, meta descriptions, h1s, alts, anchor text, etc.) to new website copy, articles, and video transcripts. You’ll also manage an editorial calendar and the workflow for creating new content – whether you write it yourself or work with an agency partner.

To excel in this role, you must be a strong writer with a solid SEO background. You must also work well cross-functionally, as your role requires working hand in hand with our SEO team, SEM team, website team, and both internal and external subject-matter experts. You must possess intimate knowledge of how readers search for and consume content online and on mobile devices. Bonus points if you’ve done this before targeting small businesses.

The small business market is the bread and butter of PayPal’s merchant services business. By helping to drive the success of new PayPal products, you will play a key role in PayPal’s overall success.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Superior writing and editing: This is a content-heavy role. You must be able to distill complex and difficult concepts into easy-to-understand, “on-your-side” communications.  Put another way: You can easily “de-geek the speak.” A writing sample will be requested.
  • Proficiency with SEO best practices: Everything you write will reside on our website. You must have a deep understanding of how to create SEO-optimized content. You should also have experience optimizing content for a large-scale website.
  • In-depth working knowledge of common SEO tools: You’ll work daily with Google Keyword Planner, Searchmetrics (or something similar), and AHREFS.
  • Experience with link-building strategies (preferred): Help us identify and manage opportunities to build links back to our content. A huge plus if you have a strong background with internal cross linking.
  • Collaborative nature: You must have excellent relationship-building skills with senior peers as well as internal and external partners.
  • Unmatched attention to detail: You can drive people nuts by being so detail-oriented, but they thank you later (not only because you make sure everything is covered, but also because people like you enough to actually thank you later – see the third bullet).
  • Creative thinking: You’ll craft content for some of PayPal’s most influential and dynamic products, so you need to demonstrate innovative thinking that does justice to our innovative products.
  • Superior project management skills: You’ll manage the creation of a large and ever-expanding list of content on many website properties, so bringing order to chaos is a must. Being able to manage competing priorities is a must.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: You must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to work with little direction.
  • Intellectual curiosity and flexibility: PayPal is a dynamic, fast-paced company. A track record working in similarly fluid industries and under tight timelines is a plus.
  • B2B or SMB experience: A deep understanding of the payments industry and ecosystem strongly preferred. Experience marketing to SMBs also preferred.

We're a purpose-driven company whose beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day. We hold ourselves to our One Team Behaviors which demand that we hold the highest ethical standards, to empower an open and diverse workplace, and strive to treat everyone who is touched by our business with dignity and respect. Our employees challenge the status quo, ask questions, and find solutions. We want to break down barriers to financial empowerment. Join us as we change the way the world defines financial freedom.

PayPal provides equal employment opportunity (EEO) to all persons regardless of age, color, national origin, citizenship status, physical or mental disability, race, religion, creed, gender, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, genetic information, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law. In addition, PayPal will provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.
