The Tracking analytics team seeks a top-performing, highly-motivated analytics expert to join our growing team. You will have the opportunity to work with multiple business/engineering groups, use your knowledge and experience to elevate the quality of tracking & instrumentation across the company, help data engineers build salable platforms that produce business metrics and enable monitoring on those metrics. You’ll be asked to wear several different hats, but one that you will wear consistently is that of a leader. Strong behavioral analytics knowledge, experience working on highly complex software projects in AGILE mode and a desire to drive positive change are key to success in this role. The role will be responsible for supporting global stakeholder departments, working domain leads and data citizens across different GEO’s such as Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific. Because the position requires interaction with geographically-disbursed teams so the candidate must be a self-starter with strong leadership qualities, project/task management skills, analytical skills and comfortable working with distributed teams.

  • Partner closely with other Product Managers to understand new product offerings being built, and work with analysts to recommend the right metrics to measure performance of those features
  • Provide strategic and tactical guidance on specific data elements that need to be tracked in order to enable tracking of metrics and assess user behavior
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams, provide ongoing support to help instrument tracking elements
  • Collaborate with data platform teams to build/enhance necessary data platforms to provide metrics & business insights and in building alerts to monitor those metrics
  • Develop a strong understanding of the PayPal tracking infrastructure; Identify and act upon opportunities for simplicity, consistency and re-usability of tracking code
  • Train and provide expert consultation to product management, engineering, analytics and other teams on tracking standards, tools and processes
  • Document best practices for data tracking, and maintain documentation for self-service use

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering (Masters or MBA preferred but not required) discipline with a strong quantitative aptitude
  • At least 5 years of work experience. At least 2-3 years of analytical experience in a business context, focused on web, mobile or product analytics
  • Strong SQL skills required
  • Experience working with Hadoop, Apache Spark and big data technology preferred but not required
  • Solid understanding of behavioral analytics concepts with respect to UX design, data tracking, AB testing and metrics
  • Understanding of service-oriented architecture, data flows in multi-tier systems, event tracking and relational data structures
  • Previous experience working with Product Managers & Analysts in designing and driving data tracking for business metrics
  • Proven ability to influence outcomes effectively without direct authority
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and skilled at adjusting communication style/vocabulary to your audience’s role/function and technical familiarity
  • Self-starter, driven, strong relationship builder, passionate about learning and making a difference
  • Familiarity with Payments ecosystem or Paypal’s tracking and experimentation platform highly desired
