A robust issuing, tokenization, and transaction-processing platform is essential for the universal acceptance of PayPal globally. Being able to tokenize the PayPal wallet and make it accessible via open loop rails represents the most scalable way to achieve global reach.

The Issuing, Tokenization, and Next Gen payments organization is responsible for product strategy and development of Issuing, Tokenization, and associated Transaction-Processing platforms. This organization represents the Center of Excellence at PayPal for all matters related to Tokenization and Issuance, and the associated transaction processing.

As part of this team, Agile Product Owners work with product managers and engineering leads/teams to interpret, refine, and translate business needs for Tap and Pay (NFC) and card products, and emerging social and bot commerce platforms into technical requirements, ready for implementation by engineers. They understand business needs in detail, help identify and define the appropriate solution across various impacted engineering teams/components, and guide/collaborate with those teams in software development, deployment, and testing. They also help define the longer-term platform strategy, and be exposed to a broad spectrum of functions within the organization.

The Agile Product Owner, Issuance and Payments Processing, will:

  • Help build the Issuance and Tokenization Transaction-Processing platform to be leveraged by internal and external partners to enable a variety of commerce use cases from traditional card and Tap & Pay, to Social and Contextual commerce.
  • Be a technical as well functional expert on open loop payment processing and operations on a global scale and help shape the next generation commerce platforms within PayPal to scale to multiple countries and support millions of consumers.
  • Manage stakeholders, working closely with product managers to translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Be a leader, able to drive and assist in delivery of transaction processing capabilities across multiple cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop tools and processes to enhance efficiency of transaction processing.
  • Educate, train, and motivate engineering colleagues to deliver against the key strategies and initiatives.

Job Requirements:

  • 5 or more years of relevant experience in payments or banking with significant experience in open-loop transaction processing.
  • The ideal candidate has the following subject matter expertise:  
    • Open-loop payment messaging (e.g. ISO8583) via the major card networks (Visa/MasterCard/etc.).
    • EMV and magnetic-stripe card transaction processing, settlement, reconciliation, and dispute/chargeback handling..
    • Transaction-Processing Platforms and emerging Tokenization systems.
    • Hands-on experience with transaction processing both in-store and e-commerce.
    • Working knowledge of the complete end-to-end life cycle of payments processing, including all operational and customer support activities.
    • Understanding of the following is a plus: card issuing, tokenization/NFC/HCE, transaction/card/PIN cryptography, risk and fraud management, dispute management, and regional card networks.
    • Prior experience of the following is also desirable: working with emerging payments constructs, building new technologies and strategies, and relevant experience outside the US
    • Prior experience with Agile development methodologies is a plus.
    • Core skill set requirements are as follows: detail-oriented, analytical, leadership, stakeholder management, product ownership/management, project management and execution, communication (written, verbal, and oral) with diverse audiences and stakeholders. 
    • The candidate should bring a high level of enthusiasm and the ability to satisfy groups with disparate objectives.
    • Travel required; around 10% of the time.
