The Sales Engineering Team Lead, manages PayPal Germany’s Merchant and Partner integration program that aims to enhance customer experiences offered by our extensive network of merchants and partners. You will lead a team of customer facing Technical Consultants / Integration Engineers that partner closely with various internal and external client groups, to implement world-class buying experiences through PayPal on Germany’s largest commerce platforms and retail brands.

The Sales Engineering Team Lead, is a member of the Sales Engineering Leadership Team and as such is expected to participate in the day-to-day running and contribute to the wider strategy of the group that covers not only integration, but also new business technical pre-sales, implementation and solution architecture. 


Core responsibilities:

  • Coordination of all activities in the ‘Integration Lifecycle’; from building pipelines, through technical implementation, to tracking the success of projects with our clients. 
  • Develop partnerships and strategies to continually improve process and practise utilised by the integration service.  
  • Act as an ambassador and owner of Merchant & Partner Integration for PayPal in Germany and represent the business at various internal and external forums.
  • Develop direct reports. Provide formal and informal feedback on performance. Facilitate and support personal development. Attract, retain and recruit outstanding individuals.                 

Experience required:

  • Demonstrable experience in technical pre-sales, integration or project management.
  • Experience of leading customer facing technical teams.
  • Working within the payments or online commerce industries, while not vital, is considered a plus.

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent required
  • Holder of project / process qualifications, e.g. PRINCE2, PMI, APM, Six Sigma preferred.

Skills & Abilities required:

  • Outstanding project management and engagement skills. Proven success of effectively delivering complex technical projects in a customer-facing environment.
  • Analytical skills. Experience of providing tangible insight from a range of data sources to identify, create and validate business cases.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills. The ability to engage with multiple stakeholders including Engineering, Product, Risk, Finance and Operations at multiple levels up to and inclusive of CTO and across different regions globally.
  • Inspirational Coach. Willingness to share expertise and formally introduce new methodologies to drive efficiencies. 
  • Proven ability to influence without line management authority, across domains and regions.
  • Highly motivated, structured yet flexible and adaptable. 
  • Ability to grasp product and functional knowledge quickly.
