As a member of the Technical Operations team, the Systems Engineer will work to support and scale our fully virtualized environment through the use of automation and configuration management tools. Our existing team members have broad capabilities that range from low level network and system event triage, software design, development and release methodologies, secure systems hardening and implementation, working directly with our business customers in support and engaging with new partners on one-of-a-kind integrations; we’re looking for someone that is eager to contribute broadly to our success in many areas. An understanding of business priorities as well as technical issues will be critical to maintaining the various environments under management; including a geographically resilient production environment and numerous development and certification environments.

This team member will help Implement the next generation cloud platform to support PayPal In Store platforms that deliver cutting edge mobile payment solutions to PayPal customers, enterprises and financial institutions around the world. The engineer will drive solutions to migrate multi-tenant microservice platform components to the public cloud and global regions in a rapidly scaling, high-availability environment. Qualified candidates should be ready to work in a DevOps environment delivering infrastructure and product solutions alongside performance, software development and solutions engineers operating as one team.


  • A successful team member will be able to support a large number of virtualized systems, implement automation efficiencies through the intelligent use of new and existing technologies and contribute extensively in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Assist the team in ongoing capacity planning and metrics gathering.
  • Maintain and regularly tune our suite of internal and external monitoring tools.
  • Develop internal tools and APIs to increase efficiency and automate tasks, including working with existing platforms such as AWS, VMWare, Docker, etc.
  • Participate in numerous security and operational audits, such as PCI DSS.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams as part of cross-functional projects.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation in support of our platform and customers.


  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science/Math or related field with 5+ yrs of experience in systems or release engineering. Exceptional candidates with less experience considered.
  • Experience building infrastructure services consumable by development and platform teams.
  • Amazon Web Services engineering and administrative experience.
  • Experience automating AWS services using Terraform, Jenkins, Ansible, Packer, Docker.
  • Skilled in building automated CI and CD pipelines.
  • Strong Linux (RHEL) systems knowledge.
  • Proficient with Git / GitHub.
  • Understanding of and comfortable with DevOps ways of working.
  • Solid understanding of Software Development Life Cycles and software design principles.
  • Flexible and open to changing needs and expectations.
  • Able to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate technical issues and propose solutions.
