The Staff Accountant is a key member of the Controllership team, responsible for supporting financial reporting and operational activities for Business Units such as the Braintree, Venmo, and Xoom entities. This role will be based in the PayPal Omaha office but will work closely with our team members located across PayPal locations.

Responsibilities

  • Support in monthly/quarterly/annual financial close process, including key close tasks such as – preparation and posting of journal entries in the SAP General Ledger, timely reconciliation of general ledger accounts, and flux analyses for reported periods.
  • Works independently to research, and timely resolve outstanding reconciling items and effectively communicate with internal teams to resolve differences or aid in investigation.
  • Seek to improve current processes by questioning the status quo, and driving process improvements through automation and other operational efficiencies.
  • Assist in documentation of processes across the business units to ensure knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Adapt to a fast-paced environment during month-end and quarter-end close.
  • Review monthly bank reports and serve as liaison between banking partners and controllership team.
  • Perform key SOX controls relevant to transaction margin.
  • Support audit testing throughout the year in partnership with internal and external auditors.
  • Assist with or be responsible for other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel (experience with Excel pivot tables, v-lookup and filters); Previous SAP experience a plus
  • Excellent accounting skills - ability to identify appropriate accounting treatment (debits and credits) and impact to balance sheet/income statement accounts; understand journal entries and how transactions impact account balances
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills

Strong communication skills - including ability to listen to the needs of others and collaborate with other teams
