PayPal Alternative Payments team is looking for a strong backend-oriented Software Development Engineer to work on a unique opportunity and join a brand-new project within PayPal. As a member of the Alternative Payments core team, you will be expected to be responsible for such areas as implementation and support of backend micro-services, working closely with the front end and cross-functional teams to coordinate complex deliverables, do research and provide meaningful feedback about any decision being made within the team. We also expect you to guide less experienced team members and raise the bar in regards to code quality, testability and maintainability standards. A typical day would incorporate working with the architect and both back end and front teams to understand architecture and web flows to efficiently design and implement the solution. Responsibilities : 
* Be a key member of a high performing software engineering team.
* Play a critical role in day-to-day coding, design, code reviews and troubleshooting production issues 
* Design, develop and deliver high quality code and automated tests to production within a short development cycle in the Continuous Integration and delivery environment.
* Collaborate with engineering, product and cross functional teams to devise optimal engineering solutions.
* Work effectively with globally distributed teams in multiple time zones

Job Requirements:

* MS/BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
* 3+ years of hands on programming experience in Java
* Solid knowledge of Object Oriented Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms.
* Hands on experience with Java MVC frameworks and common open-source technologies (Spring, JDBC, RestEasy, Hibernate)
* Experience with REST API’s, Web Services, Unit Testing, Java Build tools.
* Oracle, NoSQL, JDBC/ORM, JMS, App servers / Servlet containers, Maven/Git/Continuous integration
* Passion for developing high quality and robust code that scales and performs well
* Highly motivated, goal driven, can-do approach.
* Innovative, entrepreneurial, team player, ability to multi-task.

Additional requirements:

* Experience building large scale distributed systems is desirable
* Payments or e-commerce industry experience is a plus
* Experience on front end technologies is a plus

* Experience with Kafka/RabbitMQ (or any message broker) as well hands-on with containerization (Docker) is a plus
