Position Summary: PayPal is committed to combating Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing (TF), and related financial crimes around the world. The Global Financial Crimes (GFC) organization is comprised of specialized teams dedicated to developing and implementing effective policies, advanced analytics and thorough investigative processes that consider the risks posed by PayPal’s products, customers, transaction volumes and jurisdictions in which PayPal operates. The GFC program includes ongoing support for upcoming business initiatives to evaluate potential AML risks, and an annual data driven AML/TF Risk Assessment that helps to identify areas of opportunity and inform prioritization of ongoing enhancements.

GFC is seeking a highly talented and experienced AML professional to support the business in evaluating new and existing products and services as well as supporting the AML/TF risk assessment activities with a focus on coordinating across key stakeholder groups to properly evaluate the inherent AML risks of PayPal’s products, customers and geographies amongst other factors.  The successful candidate will partner with Risk and Compliance Officers, Money Laundering Reporting Officers and other key leaders globally to assess PayPal’s existing and upcoming products, documenting key features and AML controls related to those products. This role will also include partnering closely with business leaders to ensure new product offerings balance an optimized customer experience with best-in-class compliance.    

The successful candidate will be highly efficient with exceptional communication skills and proven ability to lead through change while balancing multiple projects and priorities. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Identifying and assessing the ML/TF Risks relevant to PayPal, building deep subject matter expertise regarding PayPal’s products and services, partner relationships and payment flows
  • Working with PayPal’s data teams to properly understand what data elements are available within key product constructs, and working with GFC stakeholders to define metrics that help to properly understand and evaluate inherent risks across multiple categories;  
  • Evaluating Controls designed to mitigate ML/TF risks as well as capabilities for identifying and reacting to changes in the business environment and risk landscape;
  • Identifying gaps or weaknesses in controls and capabilities for both new and existing products;  
  • Preparing executive level presentations to ensure ongoing awareness of PayPal product trends, key risks and upcoming business initiatives that may require risk mitigation or tailored financial crimes strategies;
  • Assisting with drafting documentation utilized in regulatory examinations and internal reviews globally;
  • Developing action plans to address key areas of financial crimes risk identified through assessing new and existing products and during the formal AML/CTF risk assessment;
  • Regularly present to GFC leadership on upcoming initiatives that may impact PayPal’s AML/TF risk profile

Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will hold a minimum 10 years of AML, Compliance, investigative or similar experience. A college degree and relevant experience in a senior position at a financial institution or consulting firm is preferred.
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets preferred
  • Technologically conversant with a knowledge of Analytics application with a global Financial Crimes Compliance function
  • Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to partner effectively at multiple levels and across disciplines
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks with the demonstrated ability to understand and lead effectively within a complex GFC program in a changing regulatory environment
  • Proven ability to exhibit agility in navigating from current state to proposed solutions
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Experience creating and delivering presentations to executive audiences, regulators/external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to execute in a fast paced and deadline driven environment
