PayPal is seeking a high caliber, experienced and energetic attorney, with experience in financial services regulation and technology to join our Product Legal team. This attorney will primarily support PayPal’s Xoom service which offers a secure, fast and cost-effective means of sending money, paying bills and topping up prepaid services across multiple digital platforms to both online and offline recipients in over 120 countries and counting.  This attorney would primarily work closely with the Xoom business development, product and marketing teams in San Francisco, California but also support other PayPal and Xoom teams as needed. 

Responsibilities:

  • Providing legal and regulatory guidance as the business development, product and marketing teams develop, implement, market and update Xoom services
  • Negotiating and drafting global network partner contracts for the business
  • Training business teams on various legal or regulatory issues and risks
  • Take the lead on various special projects as the need arises
  • There is significant opportunity to expand the depth and breadth of the role depending on the candidate’s capability and appetite.

    Qualifications:
     

  • 6+ years practicing law, with a mix of in-house and big firm experience preferred. 
  • Ability to provide legal and regulatory guidance on the design and modification of products, proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies, review product user experiences to ensure legal compliance and proper disclosures, document guidance for consumption by attorneys and non-attorneys, and help improve processes for review.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and structuring international commercial transactions with a wide range of counterparties, cultures and working styles.
  • Strong preference for a candidate who has experience with payments law or FinTech. The ideal candidate can provide timely, concise and business-focused legal advice on payments law, including federal and state consumer financial laws and regulations like the Remittance Transfer Rule and other provisions of Regulation E; data privacy laws; consumer protection laws; and new rules, enforcement actions and other guidance coming out of agencies such as the CFPB and the FTC.
  • Ability to tolerate change and ambiguity in the law.
  • Creative thinker with strong problem solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple assignments simultaneously and effectively manage conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Small company attitude and passion for rolling up your sleeves no matter how big or small the task but also have the skills to collaborate and be a team player with PayPal colleagues across our global organization.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with fluency in another language desired
  • Ability to travel if needed for the business.
  • Admitted to a state bar and in good standing.
  • Last but not least, a sense of humor

Education:

  • Law degree from a top law school, and excellent academic credentials
