Responsibilities:

  • As an engineer in our development team you will be responsible for the development and delivery of the web services supporting PayPal user experiences on various channels (web, mobile, etc.), as well as integrations with partners. You will work closely with product and experience and/or integration teams to understand the developer needs and deliver the API that meets their needs.
  • As a core participant of your team, you’ll estimate engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations, and triage production issues. You need to be dynamic, collaborative, and curious as we build new experiences, improve existing products, and develop distributed systems powering the world’s largest e-commerce and payments websites at a scale few companies can match.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with programming, and solid understanding of algorithms and data structures. Passionate in solving technical problems.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, product managers, Sales and BizOps teams to design and develop strategic and tactical solutions, tools and processes
  • Analyze transaction and debug logs for evidence of socket, api, and application reliability faults.
  • Investigate application/component code for defensive coding opportunities.
  • Create user stories, acceptable criteria, and participate in sprint demos to validate improvements.
  • Develop agile user stories – including translating business requirements into functional/nonfunctional requirements, identifying minimal viable product and acceptance criterias, and validating story delivery and business outcome.
  • Promote Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CICD) principles – utilize experience with selenium, Jenkins, and bluefin, and testing products to build and sustain frameworks providing nightly integration/testing cycles and daily build activities.

Requirements:

  • Development experience with high-traffic backend services.
  • Mastery of the fundamentals of Java, including JDK7, JUnit, Maven, Jenkins, and Sonar.
  • Mastery of open-source Java Frameworks, including Spring MVC.
  • Direct experience with concepts such as SOA, REST APIs, message-based communication.
  • Experience with Git, Jira, Tomcat, SQL, Couchbase.
  • Experience with Agile and Scrum.
