Sr. Engineering Manager - Merchant Integrations Platform

Our organization is called the Merchant Integrations Platform, and we manage the end-to-end lifecycle of any developer that wants to integrate with PayPal.

Under this organization you will manage three of our flagship products

1) developer.paypal.com: This is the place where as an external developer you can manage all aspects of your integration, ranging from API credentials, to test accounts, to tooling, visualizations, and recommended best practices. You will be responsible for ensuring that millions of developers and merchants have all the resources they need to integrate with PayPal and have s delightful experience doing so.

2) Button Factory: Catering to our non technical merchants, this product allows anyone to create and manage the ubiquitous "Pay with PayPal" buttons you see all over the web. Managing this product will put you in charge of a multi-million dollar revenue stream, as we embark on a modernization strategy for it.

3) PayPal SDKs. As a foundational block for many integrations, our SDKs allow developers to quickly integrate with PayPal in a variety of popular programming languages. We own the design, support and delivery strategy for our SKD offering.

You will also collaborate with our developer relations team and Technical Writers to ensure we offer a comprehensive solution for all our users.

This role will give you exposure to a broad variety of technologies with very unique use cases, while managing a diverse and energetic team of engineers, working in conjunction with product owners, user experience designers and content strategists to deliver on our mission of friction-less integrations. Our organization provides a flexible work schedule, placing a lot of value in work/life balance, as well as personal and professional growth.

If you have a good foundation, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies, your tech stack is largely irrelevant. I want to hire you not for what you’ve done, but for what you’ll be able to do in our group.

You are not expected to write code in this position, but you must have a strong technical background.

Your responsibilities as a Sr. Engineering Manager include:

  • Crafting (And delivering!) a roadmap for our mission, in conjunction with your Product, UX, and Content partners.
  • Building an engineering culture centered around empathy, quality, and professional growth
  • Managing relationships with stakeholders across the company, ensuring their feedback is incorporated into our strategy
  • Establishing best practices and processes to be followed inside and outside our organization
  • Being a hiring champion, ensuring our interview process is balanced, fair, and productive; as well as ensuring that diversity and inclusion are at the heart of it.

In order to be successful in this role, you must:

  • Care deeply about the people you work with. As a people manager, your first responsibility is to your group.
  • Model a good work/life balance for your teams. Delivering on a roadmap and having personal time are not mutually exclusive things.
  • Understand the value of a customer’s trust. Our global developer community depends on our output.
  • Be a true collaborator, able to put outcomes over ego.
  • Be a clear communicator, able to set expectations and outcomes that everyone understands and aligns with.
  • Have intellectual curiosity. Our domain is broad, and constantly evolving.

Requirements:

4+ years of people management experience, leading engineering teams.

Nice-To-Haves:

Experience building web applications.

Experience with API design.
