We are looking for a talented, motivated and results-driven leader to join the Risk Management organization. Responsibilities will include focused delivery on the loss budget by assessing, benchmarking and optimizing PayPal merchant acquiring and onboarding Risk strategy for the global SMB segment of seller while supporting PayPal’s aggressive expansion in the exciting marketplaces vertical. You will be responsible for multiple risk disciplines which PayPal to achieve best in class risk management while achieving superior customer experience. These efforts require close collaboration with regional business and functional counterparts along with coordination, partnership and most importantly influencing of cross-functional teams located in different geographic locations. This position requires a proven record of merchant risk management (online preferred), business acumen, creative thinking, strong influencing skills, strong communication and collaboration skills and a foundation of research and analytical skills.

Core responsibilities:

Have full oversight and accountability for the financial losses in the Small Business and Casual seller space due to Onboarding, risk, and credit risk.

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the management of Merchant risk across all 3 domains products globally.

• Work with senior leadership to set Merchant risk mitigation goals and risk appetite triggers (consistent with PayPal’s risk management framework and program).

• Identify and implement strategies to meet Merchant risk mitigation goals.

• Work closely with decision science teams to have models implemented and tailored to strategies and goals.

• Oversee and develop ever-evolving techniques, tools and capabilities to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of PayPal’s Seller risk mitigation efforts. This will include ensuring ongoing feedback loops and optimization efforts are in place, which will include partnering with the decision science team within SGD (Strategy, Growth and Data) and the investigative teams in GGRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance).

• Develop in partnership with the Risk Oversight team reporting (including key risk and key performance indicators) for senior leadership, management committees and boards.

• Ensure that appropriate training, procedures and performance monitoring are in place and maintained (particularly for alert adjudication and account disposition processes).

• Support and promote a culture of progress and ensure day-to day quality; risk and risk mitigation is maintained through periods of strategic change.

• This position will be asked to participate and present to management committees and boards as appropriate.

• This leader will work effectively in a complex, fast-paced matrixed environment, replete with tight deliverable timeframes and multiple stakeholders, both internal and external.

• This position is expected to act independently and demonstrate strong initiative.

• This leader needs to influence outcomes, minimize and address conflict.

• The role requires a sense of urgency, passion for results, and personal accountability for achievement.

Education required:

- Bachelors degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering with an MBA or related graduate degree preferred Experience required:

- 8+ years of experience in risk management, credit underwriting and/or portfolio management capacity for financial services, payment services, or merchant account acquiring companies (online preferred)

- Exceptional people influencing and collaboration skills

- International experience preferred, including the management of country-specific risk

- Knowledge of credit agency data availability and alternative sources of data for small business analysis

- Solid understanding of local data protection, banking, card association and compliance requirements

- A passion for problem-solving, flexibility, comfort with ambiguity, and creativity

- Results driven team player with strong leadership, organizational and project management skills
