Responsibilities include: • Provide Pre-sales engineering support to account team and lead solution discovery discussions • Work with technical product leads to design a solution that optimally utilizes our products and payment platform. • Ability to lead complex partner engagements that may involve multiple project teams from PayPal and our partner organizations. Coordinate with core and engineering teams as needed • Construct a technical architecture of multiple solutions to match Merchant’s industry standards, use cases, strategy and technical needs • Provide strategic guidance and direction to Merchants on our product and service offerings • Maintain regular communication with both the Merchant and internal teams, and constantly manage Partner expectations • Develop Solution Proposal and Solution Designs to define the overall solution and implementation plan with partner engineering team • Oversee technical project delivery process with key contributors to help manage scope • Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery. Work with internal product teams to align roadmap phases for future release schedules • Be a technical subject matter expert and represent the full internal and external API capabilities of PayPal • Own technical delivery of a working solution from design, through to working with partner engineering teams through integration, testing, implementation and launch • Work closely with internal teams including compliance, privacy, risk, information security, support and operations to ensure all aspects of a launch are managed • Ensure Merchant implements optimal integration strategies, techniques and user experience best practices • Pro-active response in identifying and troubleshooting integration or technical issues, internal and external • Capture and communicate experiences in formal post-mortem, feeding lessons learned, best practices and resources back into the core team


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in finance and/or computer science.
  • 5+ years in Payments (Credit Card, Banking, Online, Offline), especially with ecommerce systems, payments gateways and/or payment processors
  • 5+ years of experience/exposure in the following areas:
    • Web and mobile technologies including Web Services, APIs, REST, HTML/HTTP, iOS, Android and leading web and mobile application frameworks.
    • Multiple major programming languages (C++, Objective-C, C#, Java, JavaScript, Ruby, Perl, .NET, PHP, Python).
    • Working with or leading Technical Product Management
    • Understanding of n-tier and MVC application architectures.
    • Working in a Pre-Sales capacity support Business Development initiatives
  • 5+ years relevant experience in a leading role such as Technical/Solution Engineer or Architect
  • Superb executive presence, capable of gaining trust of C-Level Executives
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to collaborate effectively with a Director and above audience internal and external to PayPal.
  • Ability to successfully interact and dynamically adapt communication styles with all levels of client organizations including Senior Executives, Middle Management, Finance, Operations, & Technical/IT staff
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal in English.
  • Ability to translate requirements into detailed design documents
  • Ability to analyze strategic objectives and define specific tactical goals required to achieve them.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to identify issues, solve them quickly and well, and know when to rely on internal resources to assist
  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Superb organizational skills to be able to coordinate complicated projects
  • Ability to lead others and perform mentoring duties such as defining training needs, coaching, and providing constructive feedback
  • Exception team building and team management skills
  • Ability to lead and manage in an environment of ambiguity with diverse stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel (up to 30% if necessary) in support of key project milestones
