We are seeking a Senior Technical Manager to be the GML Bangalore site leader and to build and manage our software engineering organization there.  As a Software Engineering Director, you would lead initiatives that will drive business growth and bring our business lending platform to the next level.  You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment that is within a matrixed big company organization, and not be hindered by ambiguity or multiple competing priorities.  You will hire and lead technology managers and engineers, and collaborate with stakeholders to plan, design, build and manage websites, web services, and mission critical internal systems that provides working capital for PayPal merchants around the world.

The successful candidate will perform the following activities:

  • Develop, grow, and lead a large part of our high-performing software engineering organization, and be a hands-on technology expert.
  • Manage software development tools, techniques, processes, and projects using Agile/Scrum methodology along with waterfall/SDLC techniques to ensure that projects are completed in alignment with scope and schedule.
  • Enable and empower teams to build and deploy high-quality software on a regular and frequent basis.
  • Manage the selection and acquisition of software development tools, products, and services.
  • Ensure appropriate design, implementation, testing, delivery, and support of our systems.
  • Establish and track metrics and procedures that ensure the operation health of our websites and related systems and lead the delivery of production support for our online platform.
  • Drive a culture of obsession around customer focus and delivering a great online customer experience.
  • Become a subject matter expert in several areas by diving deep into our business and technology systems, integrations, processes, and operations.
  • Be an evangelist and driver for product, process, and technology innovations.
  • Prioritize system fixes and functionality and make appropriate tradeoffs to optimize time-to-market, while also anticipating and mitigating constraints, issues, and bottlenecks.
  • Clear, timely communication of goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Use data to make decisions and help others to do the same.
  • Facilitate fun team building activities that re-enforce our culture.
  • Travel a couple times each year to PayPal offices in the US.


Requirements:  

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical area; MBA or MS preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in mission critical technology roles.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing/building/supporting websites with support for multiple browsers and devices.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing software development managers, engineers, methodologies, projects, and production support operations.
  • Extensive use of Scrum or other agile methodologies and related tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence).
  • Experience with customer data management technologies, SQL, CRM/Salesforce, etc.
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms, systems of record, and/or online financial systems.
  • Experience with the legal, compliance, security, audit, PMO, and related sources of governance around systems development
  • Experience with Java, RESTful APIs, Spring Boot, Hibernate, Oracle and related technologies
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks (e.g. React, Angular) and related technologies.
  • Well-versed in Dev, Test, Production activities including build/test automation, release management, performance monitoring and tuning, business continuity and data security.
  • Able to lead complex technical discussions with engineer and business partners, building consensus, and creating action plans.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, a changing environment, and a rapid work pace.
  • Must be innovative and self-directed with a proven track record of inspiring others and delivering results. 
  • Must be passionate about customer experience, teamwork and having fun while doing a great job.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Support and operational experience in a 24x7 technology environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with strong overall interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
