GDS (Global Data Sciences) is a PayPal unit specializing in development of data solutions as well as data-science, Machine-Learning and AI solutions for multiple domains across PayPal - Risk, Fraud, Credit Sales, Marketing, Customer-support, Product experience, Global Operation and more. We use data, technology and innovative machine learning algorithms to drive business results and improve customer experience. We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to be part of the GDS Engineering Team. The candidate will be responsible for analysis, design, development and testing of application code. The candidate will interact with global cross-functional teams to address complex business requirements. The individual should be self-motivated, possess creative problem-solving skills as well as the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.

Responsibilities:

In this role, the individual will be part of the engineering team within GDS and have the following responsibilities (not an exhaustive list).

  • Participating and collaborating with cross functional teams in the organization to understand the business requirements and to deliver solutions that can scale.
  • Planning the execution of the project in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Applying creativity and out of the box thinking.
  • Proactively anticipating problems and appropriately communicating to the team and management in a timely manner.
  • Being flexible and being able to support all functions of product life cycle when required.
  • Adapting quickly and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to deliver with high quality from coarse grained requirements
  • Be a Mentor for the junior members in the organization.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience in the IT industry, experience in Data space is preferred.
  • Advanced Shell scripting experience
  • Work experience in Teradata system (Certified Teradata developer is a plus); Should have strong SQL programming skills
  • Working knowledge on any ETL tool (ie. Informatica/ Ab Initio) is preferable.
  • Knowledge of Scheduling Tools is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Expertise in database programming and performance tuning techniques in Teradata is a plus
  • Familiar with data movement techniques and best practices to handle large volumes of data
  • Experience with data warehousing architecture and data modeling best practices
  • Experience with File Systems, server architectures, and distributed systems
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to take initiative to contribute beyond basic responsibilities
  • Knowledge of Hadoop (Spark, HBase/ Hive) or Java is highly preferred
  • Exposure to any of the BI tool such as (QlikView, Tableau, Micro strategy, Business Objects).
