Job Duties:

  • Develop massively scalable, distributed software systems that require high availability to support mission-critical business tasks
  • Design, develop, and test features delivered as applications and/or services 
  • Collaborate with peers and leads both within the team and across the organization
  • Work with Designers, Product Owners and Domain Technical Leads building new experiences and improving existing products, developing robust software solutions and dependable products for PayPal's customers
  • Estimate engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations, and triage production issues
  • Work with scrum teams and product managers using agile methodologies to deliver high quality solutions on time
  • Work with operations teams to ensure applications and services are highly available and reliable


  • Master's degree (or its foreign degree equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering (any field), or closely related quantitative discipline, and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or three (3) years of experience in the field of software engineering 
  • OR  Bachelor's degree (or its foreign degree equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering (any field), or closely related quantitative discipline and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or the field of software engineering
  • Strong applied experience. You’ve built, broken, and rebuilt software applications. We’re looking for creative thinkers who also know how to create real-world products
  • Solid experience working with or familiarity around Java/J2EE and big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, MapReduce, Pig, Kafka and Storm
  • Very strong foundational knowledge in Object-Oriented Design Principles, Data Structures, Algorithms, SQL/NoSQL, Operating Systems, and Software Engineering
  • Experience in agile development and relevant process and development tools like JIRA, Git, Altus, etc.
  • Knowledge of HTML5 & CSS3, JS ES6, Popular JS frameworks (React, GraphQL) is a plus
  • Experience with iOS development and/or Android development is a plus
