Core Platform and Infrastructure (CPI) team is the technology engine that powers PayPal’s business. We deliver a seamlessly scalable, exceptionally efficient, highly reliable infrastructure and services platform in a hybrid cloud environment. Primary Job Responsibilities CPI Framework Team is primarily responsible delivering highly scalable application development frameworks for PayPal’s product development needs. These framework stacks enable the development of various mid-tier and UI components and provide the fundamental backbone in products and services. The team delivers frameworks that leverage open source stacks on C++, Java, Scala and JavaScript on PayPal’s private/public cloud infrastructure. You will be part of a team helping engineer the world’s largest multi-tiered, high-performing, scalable, and highly-available Payments platform. C++ Senior Software Engineer (T24) will be a strong technical leader who is able to operate in a high performing team, can creatively balance high quality delivery with customer focus to meet business needs, has excellent communication skills, and has a continuous record of delivering results in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and test complex, multi-tier distributed software application frameworks collaboratively with peers and technical leaders
  • Proficiency with segmenting and designing system layers to support componentized and layered application development, including business logic functionality and database/component repository access
  • Define, design and implement the next generation experience and services
  • Project planning and estimating effort for the different phases
  • Work with Technical Leads, Architects, Product Management, Engineers and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, availability, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to development goals and principles
  • Share release management duties on feature rollouts, share on-call responsibilities
  • Ability to find and help fix performance, scalability, and other live issues in a very time critical environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members to achieve end vision
  • Communicate effectively to peers and leadership on tasks and projects
  • Be part of the interview team to hire and build a world class engineering team that will make an impact on how we do engineering at PayPal


Required Skills:

  • 4+ years of experience in C++ development
  • 4+ years of experience planning, architecting, designing, developing and delivering software related to platforms
  • Deep understanding of and extensive experience applying advanced object-oriented design and development principles
  • Experience designing highly available, scalable & performant software systems
  • Experience in Unix based development environment (Unix, Shell, Perl, Python)
  • Experience applying software design patterns
  • Experience with unit testing (preferably Google Test) and tools
  • Experience using industry standard software development tools (IDE / Version Control / Continuous Integration)
  • Strong problem solving skills and a passion for debugging complex issues
  • Delivery of very high quality code that is thoroughly tested, supported by unit tests & meets all “illities” criteria
  • Can be relied on to deliver features and sub-systems on time and to requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
  • Experience with using Agile/Scrum methodology for software development
  • Works well within a team, and contributes effectively to the success of those that they interact with & company overall
