PayPal Risk team is hiring a software engineer, who will be responsible for verifying PayPal Risk data and business logic in complex software system that handles high-volume transactions.

Primary Job Responsibilities

In PayPal, we leverage business rules engine technology to build solutions for risk management and other business cases. Our powerful rules engine processes several hundred millions of requests and runs thousands of business rules to quickly make business decisions every day. The evolution of this decision rules platform is key to our long term success. PayPal Decision Technology and Analytics team is looking for a talented and self-motivated software engineer to help enhance or build applications around the decision rules platform. As a software engineer, you will be responsible for integrating business products into the decision platform. You will also be responsible for maintaining the decision platform to support rules operation, application developers and business rule writers. You will get exposed to many new technologies and have opportunities to work in a dynamic environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to review and design technical solutions, troubleshoot and solve complex business problems.
  • Proactively propose business requirement and possible solutions to address business and technical issues.
  • Independently design and implement applications and REST API services on a high level requirement
  • Perform data analysis and monitoring in Big Data environment to validate data and decision quality.
  • Set up standards, build processes and develop automation tools for operational efficiency.
  • Write detailed technical documentation to allow easy hand-offs to other team members.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members using Agile methodology to deliver high quality solution on time
  • Work effectively with globally distributed teams in multiple time zones.
  • Provide on-call support periodically and as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present ideas, design and outcomes to a diverse audience
  • Can-do attitude, team player, energetic personality, ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.

Qualifications

  • Master degree or Bachelor degree with 2 year work experience in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field
  • Experience in design and implementation of enterprise level software applications
  • Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems
  • Solid programming skills in Java, Python and Linux shell Scripting
  • Experience in developing applications using RDBMS and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, Teradata, MongoDB, Influx and Elasticsearch
  • Experience in Web application development with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, etc.
  • Competent in tools and best practices such as GitHub, Jenkins, unit test, regression test and continuous integration
  • Knowledge of business rule management system such as IBM ODM will be a plus
  • Knowledge of payment industry and risk management will be a plus
  • Knowledge of data analytics and machine learning will be a plus
