The primary duty of the software engineer is to build and maintain software for the PayPal web site. This position is open to experienced hires. Depending on the project, the software engineer is expected to work individually or in a small team of 2-6 members to produce software according to stipulated requirements and delivery standards.


  • You will work in a development team to build, enhance, roll-out and maintain software for the PayPal Payment Platform services.
  • You will perform detailed technical analysis and software design, create technical documents and participate in design reviews.
  • You will code, test, integrate and document software according to stipulated technical and quality standards.

  • You will collaborate with team members and external teams to ensure successful implementation, integration, testing and roll-out of software.
  • You will meet project milestones and timely release of software according to roll-out plans.

  • You will maintain software built by the team and support the resolution of bugs attributed to the team.
  • You will adhere to established processes, technical and QA standards.

Basic Qualifications:


  • You have a Bachelor/Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or related area.
  • If you are not fresh out of school, you should have up to 3 - 4 years hands-on development experience in a scrum environment.
  • You have worked in a scrum team for at least a year and practice agile methodologies faithfully.
  • You have (designed and) implemented REST APIs, web services and SOA components.
  • You have effectively used OO-design and design patterns in your work.
  • You have developed code using SQL and NoSQL solutions.
  • You are responsible for testing your own software, always and completely, and take pains to keep your test code up-to-date.
  • You are responsible for writing your own technical documentation, and take pains to keep them up-to-date.

  • You have tried to measure and tweak your code for performance and scalability.
  • You have advocated good coding practices, process adherence and continuous improvement in these areas.
  • You are acknowledged by your peers for your ability to solve complex problems.
  • You have been in a project requiring you to effectively collaborate with remote teams across geographies and time zones.
  • You have worked in a finance-related industry before.
