We are looking for a talented Backend Application engineer to be part of Payments Data Services (PDS) team. Responsibilities include designing and developing highly scalable web services which center around data.

About Payments Data Services (PDS)

We are part of the Payments Platform organization which is the heart of what PayPal does that handles all of the payment transactions involving PayPal and other partners. Our mission for Platform is to deliver a highly scalable, best in world, geo-distributed payments platform. PDS is essential part of this platform. PDS team owns everything around data in platform which includes:

Managing data lifecycle management for various data stores Providing read and write services Stitching data coming from all subsystems within platform and providing it to downstream consumers like reporting and accounting. Reconciliation and exception reporting of data to ensure highest data quality Managing stored-value (e.g. PayPal Balance) system

Who are we looking for:

We are looking for skilled and passionate back-end engineer to join us and help building our great platform.

Your day to day activities will include:

  • Contribute to REST like web services and messaging applications which provide data interfaces
  • Write scalable and high quality code following best development practices
  • Contribute to low level application and interfaces design
  • Be a crafts(wo)man and encourage code craftsmanship across the team
  • Deliver code in an agile team environment - you will operate in the bi-weekly scrum model
  • Test your own code and deploy
  • Drive innovation

Qualifications:

Overall 3 - 8 years of experience in Software development which should include 

  • Must have: Strong desire to learn, experiment, and share knowledge with others
  • Must have: 3+ years of working experience in back-end Java development and ecosystem like Maven, Spring, Spring boot frameworks
  • Must have: 3+ years of working experience in working with Relational databases like mySQL or Oracle
  • Must have: Solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms and design patterns
  • Must have: Standard SDLC tools like  GitHub, Junit or Code coverage tools
  • Bonus: Payments Domain knowledge
  • Bonus: NoSQL and Big data technologies like Spark or Hadoop
  • B.E. Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
