JD – Software Engineer 2 – PayPal Innovation Lab – Singapore


Program Brief:


PayPal Innovation Lab is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between PayPal and the Singapore FinTech ecosystem including government agencies, industry associations, SMEs and universities.

Since its official launch in Aug 2016, the PayPal Innovation Lab has been shaping the future of money through innovation.


The key objectives of this initiative are:

  • Establish FinTech Thought Leadership, develop talent and foster a culture of innovation through high-end R&D initiatives involving Singapore’s top universities, industry partners and local businesses;
  • Be the leading incubator of next-gen FinTech startups and grooming category leaders in the FinTech space through the provision of domain expertise and a well-structured learning curriculum;
  • Transform small, medium businesses through technology to increase their productivity.

As a Software Engineer you will be part of a small R&D Innovation team developing products and services utilizing future technology while leveraging existing platforms. We are looking for a candidate to work with us on innovative products and services inside and outside our existing product offering. Candidate must be creative and collaborative. Responsibilities:

  • Develop software to solve a variety of problem statements including mobile apps and backend services.
  • Develop innovative solutions for challenging problems with scalable, production quality software.
  • Work with internal cross functional teams to develop a working model or PoC (proof of concept) with the ability to productionalize these concepts.
  • Learn constantly and dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or related area.
  • 2 - 5 years hands-on experience in software development
  • Full stack development in/for Linux, Android & iOS environment.
  • Strong skills in Server Side Java, Spring, Hibernate, REST, Maven, Github and other open source Java Libraries.
  • Strong skills in Frontend & mobile Development skills like HTML/CSS, Node.js, Javascript, React, React Native, Android & iOS SDKs.
  • Database design, programming, tuning and query optimization.
  • Test methodologies and testing tools, e.g., TestNG, JUnit.
  • Full-SDLC cycle, with large-scale live roll-out participation as a developer.
  • Ability to take ideas from concept to prototype. 
  • Ability to vet technical requirements from cross-functional R&D groups. 
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams with a strong sense of self-direction. 
  • Pro-active attitude & Self Motivated.
  • Able to articulate complex solutions for simple comprehension to a non-technical audience.
  • Experience or knowledge in Artificial Intelligence is a plus.
  • Engaging public speaking skill is a plus.

This is a full time position based at the Singapore office of PayPal.
