The PayPal Commerce Solution team is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a team of full stack software engineers in building out NodeJS based web applications that support PayPal’s 19 million merchants spread across 203 markets. The team is responsible for delivering merchant onboarding, profile, and compliance functionality - supporting PayPal merchants through their entire lifecycle. Using Agile, the team follows a rapid iteration process to deliver new features. We believe in ‘one team behaviors’, innovation, and collaboration as major pillars of success. A successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to work successfully across the organization including Engineering, Program Management, User Experience and Product. The manager will set the overall technical direction and will have the ability to guide the team in building scalable, maintainable, and reliable web applications. Bringing predictability to the team’s overall performance and delivery.

Hiring, developing, and retaining top talent and be responsible for the overall team structure.

Working with product and design organizations in defining product roadmap.

Managing competing priorities.

End-to-end ownership of features including design, coding, deployment, devops, and support.

Guiding decisions on architecture and technical strategy.

Coaching and mentoring individual contributors.

Creating & enhancing development processes to ensure the quality of products and code.

Keeping up-to-date on industry trends and technologies and applying them.

Required Skills

4-6 years of experience in building scalable web applications and delivering great user experiences.

2-4 years of managing a team of Software Engineers.

Bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree in Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience building and managing highly effective engineering teams, conducting performance reviews, making compensation decisions and recruiting talent.

Strong Design and Architecture exposure in building large scale internet applications.

Understanding of software development processes such as Agile.

Driving innovation and customer advocacy.  Be a positive change agent with a “can-do” attitude.

Proficient in current unit testing and automated functional testing frameworks.
