We are looking for an exceptional Hands-on Manager to join the team that works on the PayPal risk engineering team. If you really enjoy managing a team that would be involved in building high traffic backend services for external customer facing web applications and have interest in the latest Java/J2EE based technologies, then this is your job.

In this role you will be part of the team that is working on the PayPal Risk applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Hire capable and competent engineers to build a high performing team
  • Identify and ensure appropriate development/training opportunities are provided to the team members
  • Drive the team to achieve meet/exceed goals identified for the team
  • Set & clarify expectations with team members and provide regular feedback/coaching
  • Reward and recognize team members appropriately
  • Reviews product/platform architecture/design and works with product owners to drive business value
  • Consult with business entities on feasibility, technical requirements and cost estimates for new initiatives
  • Ensure reduction of technical debt as well as enhance security aspects related to delivery
  • Engage with technical domain leads and architects from cross vertical teams to ensure robust system design
  • Implement engineering best practices for quality delivery
  • Define and devise processes, tools and methodologies to achieve excellence in software development, testing and deployment, and in the management of the center

Required Skills:

  • Experience in managing 5 or more team members in past
  • Extensive experience designing and developing enterprise grade distributed application using Java/J2EE technologies
  • Understands and applies fundamental design principles behind a scalable, low latency and high throughput distributed application.
  • Ability to provide a technical leadership to the team on a need basis.
  • Should have managed product development teams for at least 2 years
  • Experience in building high traffic backend services for external customer facing web applications
  • Comfortable with Agile development and Scrum process
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills; ability to produce clear, concise communications and documentation
  • Highly effective at working in cross-functional and cross geographical organizations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with diverse cultures
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty and adapt to changes

Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of finance industry standards and practices preferred
