Job Description(Location: San Jose)


PayPal Software Engineers are strong technologists who are passionate to solve large scale highly complex computer engineering problems. In PayPal, we develop massively scalable, distributed software systems that require high availability to our business. You build strong competencies in data structures and algorithms, along with a technical fascination for how everything ties together. You need to have a solid foundational knowledge of computer engineering and intellectual curiosity to understand the business.

Risk Transaction engineering team is responsible for fraud detection, risk management decision and compute services across PayPal - globally. We design, develop, enhance and support services that get called across every interaction between PayPal and it's users and partners. Our solutions need to scale across millions of such interactions, working with petabyte plus data, integrating with various other APIs in real time and yet providing high availability and configurability to the business. To achieve this we are always looking at advances in technology and science and tying those back to business needs.

To help with this, we are always looking for strong technologists who are passionate to solve large scale highly complex computer engineering problems, in a repeatable and maintainable way. Our engineers build strong competencies in data structures and algorithms, along with a deep understanding of business processes.

As a key member of the Risk engineering and platform team, you architect, design, test, deploy and maintain software solutions.

Minimum qualifications:


• Masters or under graduates in Computer Science or related technical discipline with 5+ years of work experience building large scale Java applications.
• Solid implementation skills (Java, C++ and Python)
• Very strong foundational knowledge of Knowledge in Object-Oriented Design Principles, Data Structures, Algorithms, DBMS/SQL, Operating Systems, and Software Engineering
Preferred qualifications
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux or Windows environments and APIs.
• Working knowledge of web technologies (such as HTTP, HTML/DOM, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX) is beneficial
• Interest in data mining, NLP, machine learning, data analytics and in grid computing/large scale clusters a plus
• Ability to work in a fast paced, iterative development environment
• Participation in any Open source project is a big plus
