We’re looking for a risk analyst to join our Disputes & Risk Operations Management team.
Risk analysts are on the front line of identifying and targeting fraud, keeping our millions of users secure and engaged. The new risk analyst will develop solutions and processes to optimize risk operations processes. Furthermore, s/he will research Venmo’s payment history to develop and enhance existing risk policies and fraud prevention insights.
Analysts work closely with one another, with other teams within Venmo risk and with Venmo’s customer support, in order to keep learning about current fraud. They also partner closely with Venmo's product team to define features and integrate risk prevention tools. As Venmo is a subsidiary of PayPal, this role involves partnering closely with PayPal risk and operations teams to align on fraud-prevention methodologies, tools and monitoring.

  • Specific responsibilities include

    • Develop policies for handling suspicious cases while consolidating analytical insights from account review, feedback from operations teams and top down analysis.

    • Define workflows and solutions for new and existing products.

    • Write Standard Operating Procedures for case handling by operations team.

    • Collaborate with operations teams to identify opportunities for enhancing risk management solutions, tools and processes.

    • Develop monitoring methodologies and tools to optimize Risk operations processes, monitor loss level and performance KPIs.

    • Manage relationships with operations teams, including day to day execution, training, feedback cycles and performance measurements.

    • Identify and analyze loss trends, both by reviewing specific cases and by extracting meaning from our payments database.

    • Work with various partners within Venmo and PayPal to identify opportunities for loss reduction.

    • Lead analytical projects independently, while setting goals, providing benefit estimations, defining workflows and coordinating timelines in advance.

    • Support Venmo product and business operations in new products and initiatives.

    • Continuously learn from peers across the organization about fraud and fraud-prevention tools.

  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree required

    • 2+ years of experience in Data analytics

    • Strong analytical and reporting skills, SQL experience a plus

    • Training, quality, and/or policy development experience

    • Strong organizational skills and excellent follow-through

    • Outstanding written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills

    • High emotional intelligence, a can-do mentality and a creative approach to problem solving

    • Experience working in a technology environment

    • Experience with Program management

    • Experience with Process mapping

    • Ability to perform within a changing environment, with flexibility and openness towards ambiguity

    • Ability to succeed in a matrix management culture (more than one reporting relationship)

    • Payments industry / risk management / product management experience is a plus

    • Willingness to travel up to a week every 3 months.
