The Data Operations Team is looking for a highly talented, self-driven, proven reliability engineer to ensure resilient, scalable, and performant data pipeline capabilities.

Core Data Platform (CDP) in PayPal develops and manages Data Platforms powering access to data for a variety of use-cases, be it real-time stream processing (e.g. Core Data Highway), online data access (e.g. DBs, caches, storage), analytic data exploration (e.g. PayPal notebooks, Teradata) or big data processing (e.g. Hadoop ecosystem, data warehousing).  Our mission is to enable our community of data scientists, analysts, and developers to derive faster insights and reduce TTM in order to fuel PayPal's growth.

Data Operations team is responsible for data pipeline reliability and the data infrastructure that powers all offline jobs and data analytics in PP.

The Data Operations Team is looking for a highly talented, self-driven, proven reliability engineer to ensure resilient, scalable, and performant data pipeline capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot issues and participate in 24x7 on-call support, ensuring the stability of the data platform environment.
  • Optimize day to day operations work through better automation.
  • Build out data measurement frameworks to understand the operational health of the data platform.
  • Ensure a continuous improvement for data operations uplift, while keeping an ever-watchful eye, preferably automated, on capacity and performance monitoring.
  • Work with PayPal product development teams to instantiate good operational process in code to build scalable, reliable and fault-tolerant systems.
  • Effectively drive in eliminating frequent failures and incidents through Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes using problem management and hardening principles.
  • Implement auto-remediation for incidents minimizing human effort and eliminating manual errors.
  • Drive operational process automation through industry best practices like RPA etc.
  • Mentor colleagues to help develop strong ITIL practices and standards across the operations organization

Knowledge and Skills:

  • 8+ Years of Operations and Automation Experience.
  • Strong experience in batch processing, particularly related to data warehousing.
  • Fundamental Understanding and working experience in Linux Systems.
  • Strong critical thinking ability to assess complex problems, analyze options, navigate diverse perspectives and develop optimal/acceptable solutions.
  • Fundamental Knowledge on DW Technologies like Teradata, Informatica.
  • Proficient in Development using either of Shell, Python or Java is a mandate Skill.
  • Knowledge on Operations Support Process is a must.
  • Good Knowledge on Workflow Orchestration is a mandate Skill.
  • Experience in data serialization formats like Parquet and big query systems like Hive is preferred.
  • Basic Understanding of DevOps Philosophy is preferred.
  • Knowledge on ITSM and tools like Service Now is nice to have.
  • Basic understanding on Big Data Applications is a Plus.

Qualifications

  • BTech/BS or MS/MTech degree in Computer Science or equivalent discipline
  • 8+ years of experience in Operations or reliability engineering and supporting highly scalable, highly available, and performant systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in automation of operational processes.
