PayPal is looking for a highly skilled and self-motivated Sr Network Security Engineer to help support Xoom and other PayPal service infrastructure and help design and build the next generation infrastructure for containerized applications.  This person will participate in capacity planning and design of secure networks, systems, applications, and provide technical support and consultation for the Operations and IT department and other internal PayPal customers.


As a Sr Network Security Engineer within the Network Operations team, this person will be focused on building and supporting core network infrastructure, and designing for the future. 

The successful candidate will also act as a liaison to vendor support, install, manage and support routers, firewalls, switches, and load balancers and be a mentor to other technical staff.  Deep knowledge of TCP/IP internetworking, firewalls, IDS/IPS, data communication, global WAN, and LAN routing issues is crucial, and a minimum of five years Unix or Linux system administration experience is required

Required Skills                    

  • 7+ years of experience in a hands-on Network Administration/Engineering role
  • 5+ years UNIX or Linux system administration
  • 2+ years Datacenter management and support experience preferred
  • 3+ years Project management experience in the creation and design of medium and large-scale systems
  • Strong understanding of client-server software, networking components, server architectures, performance bottlenecks, network infrastructures
  • Strong understanding of virtualization and containerization architectures is required
  • Strong understanding of VPN technology as well as DNS, SMTP, FTP and WWW protocols
  • Proficiency with BGP, OSPF, HSRP/VRRP, VLAN's, STP and other routing/switching protocols
  • Deep understanding of network architecture and design with an emphasis on Security, Internet, and Cloud technologies across multiple vendor platforms including but not limited to: Cisco, Palo Alto, f5, Dell, Imperva
  • Experience and knowledge of managing multiple remote sites over high-speed WAN circuits.
  • Experience with network sniffing, bandwidth monitoring, advanced network troubleshooting and security tools
  • Must be able to work independently in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Understanding of cryptographic protocols, cipher suites, standards and implementations

Additional Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design, implementation, and support of production SaaS, Dev and QA network utilizing both on-prem and public-cloud infrastructure
  • Manage network and telecommunications projects and systems as assigned
  • Manage technology platforms: administration, backup, firmware updates, maintenance coverage, capacity planning, configuration standards, lifecycle planning, etc
  • Hands-on involvement with installation, management and support for a complex, highly available network infrastructure
  • Generate and maintain appropriate documentation for internal and external consumption on all aspects of network and system infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot performance and stability issues in a timely fashion
  • Provision network and other resources as needed at local and remote facilities.
  • Communicate status and progress effectively.
  • Must be able to work within a team both as a leader and as a team member
  • Must be able to convey knowledge to customers, peers, and managers of widely diverse skill levels
  • Excellent customer service skills and customer focus
  • Excellent communication skills and documentation skills a must

Other required qualifications are strong interpersonal and communication skills, solid understanding of networking and distributed computing environment concepts, understanding of client/server security and design concepts, as well as automation frameworks for infrastructure.
