The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely statutory reporting for Australian entities, tax compliance and oversight of outsourced regulatory reporting. The role has the overall responsibility for the end to end month end close process including review and reporting and has a specific focus on technical accounting for the Australian credit entity.

This role has overall responsibility for the timely completion and review of the end to end month end close processe, Statutory Reporting and Audit, Tax, Regulatory Reporting and will provide second line defence.

Month End:

•       Close monitoring of all entries into the Australian GL regardless of where the entries are booked, including oversight of GL team entries such as cost-plus, intercompany charges and tax accruals

•       Prepare for review of the Financial Controller and Regional Controller, accurate and timely monthly insight into P&L,  Balance sheet & Cash flow, including monthly variance analysis for Australian entities.

•       Review balance sheet reconciliations performed in shared service centre, investigate and drive open items to closure

•       Prepare cash flow forecast for PPC and work with Treasury to inject capital where required

•       Monitor monthly IFRS 9 loan reserve model and understand and document changes in the underlying drivers

•       Supervision of outsourced AP process and management of local business activities to support the process in compliance with approved policies and procedures with a focus on enhancing controls

Statutory Reporting and Audit:

This role has overall responsibility for ensuring the Annual audit and statutory accounts are prepared and submitted within statutory timeframes including tasks such as:

•       Prepare annual statutory accounts for 2 entities within statutory deadlines

•       Preparation of quarterly Statutory Board reports

•       Understand new accounting standards and document any impacts to accounting treatment

•       Manage year-end audit process ensuring timely completion 

Tax:

This role provides the local tax requirements for the Australian entities, is an SME for GST and BAS returns and provides support to the Financial controller in monitoring the companies BAPA compliance

•       Ownership of the monthly grouped BAS return process, SME in GST for the business and work with the global indirect tax team where required

•       Prepare annual tax returns and FBT returns

•       Assist the Financial Controller in management of company’s taxation matters such as BAPA compliance

Regulatory reporting oversight: this role provides second line defence for outsourced regulatory reporting and includes tasks such as:

•       Assist the Financial Controller with oversight of PPAU's Capital & Liquidity management including re-performing ratio calculations and understanding drivers and monitoring outsourced SLA's escalating where required, research any changes in ratios in the FBO books and working with COE and treasury to correct

•       Transition currently locally performed regulatory reports to the COE and perform second line review prior to submission to regulators. 

•      Support COE in the development of any new regulatory reporting as and when needed and perform second line testing 

Ad hoc responsibilities:

•       Support business in new product implementation from an accounting and control perspective

•     Review business processes to improve/strengthen internal controls and track remediation of control deficiencies 

•       Support the local Finance team in a variety of ad hoc projects and tasks as required

To see success in this role the ideal candidate will be tertiary qualified complimented by sound experience within Financial services, Technology or similar high paced commercial environment.

The requirements for the role include:

Qualifications:

•         Accounting or business/commerce degree 

•         CA/CPA –  3-5 years post qual

•         Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a finance role.  The experience must include responsibility for statutory reporting and or audit, Big 4 background preferred.

Knowledge/experience:

•         Financial services, Technology or similar high paced commercial environment

•         Experience working in a globally listed matrix organisation advantageous

•         Experience working in a regulated entity highly desirable

•         Extensive knowledge of the Australian accounting framework and US GAAP differences

•         Exposure to credit/banking including IFRS 9 loan accounting highly desirable

Skills/characteristics:

•         Superb attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and deliver in a deadline-oriented environment

•         Excellent organisational skills with a proven track record to manage multiple tasks to completion

•         Ability to work cooperatively within a team, & proactively manage own schedule

•        Accustomed to working in an Autonomous environment

•         Extensive use of SAP & SAP BW and expert Excel and PowerPoint an advantage

•         Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal relationships skills.
