The consumer organization at PayPal focuses on new products and capabilities offered to the consumer segment of PayPal users. This organization is responsible for all the experiences and services offered to buyers and casual sellers. Some of the areas of focus are P2P payments, Incentives, login dashboard, shopping experience and consumer utilities like contact book and device management. To keep up with the ever changing market landscape and to improve adoption across different dimensions like global launch, reusable UI across various partners and more importantly rapid develop, deploy and learn, there is a definite need to create innovative solutions to create re-usable UI components that are driven completely by the server. This would ensure launching functionalities faster across different channels and be reactive to the market needs. Server driven UI is not a new concept, it's a concept that exists in some shape or form across the industry. The need to have this infrastructure aligns with the strategic vision of PayPal to serve a billion customers across the globe using PayPal every day. This job requires the engineer to be part of the core team who can define, design, engineer, build, deploy, test and learn, this infrastructure. This team will be put to test on defining the solution and how it can be built with high scale and low SLA with innovative solutions around UI building blocks, live preview of the compiled views etc. so to define it in simpler terms - create a state of the art Server Driven UI infrastructure. We believe in lean teams delivering a lot of value, so you will be part of a lean team potentially driving impact across a wide variety of PayPal products and could potentially be part of the first few to define the way, this mode of UI development is defined in PayPal. You will be exposed to complex technology problems and will be exposed to technology like GraphQL, High throughput no SQL stores, Cloud based services, exposure to IOS/Android/Web development platforms and so on. Job Description: The primary role of the Engineer is to provide expertise and deliver code for the Service Driven UI platform systems and components. This person is highly technical with experience working on a high throughput service infrastructure keeping in mind the long-term scale. PayPal technology stack for the platform include components in Java not limited to, Services, Daemons, Batches etc. to work, the candidate should be able to work on these stacks with relative ease. An engineer working on this platform will be exposed to some of the most complicated problems to work on, in terms of technology and business. Building a platform that can be used across channels with scale for different use cases is quite challenging in terms of define, design, build, deploy, test, monitor, alert, iterate to add functionality based on feedback with backward compatible, market pressure and the list goes on. The person should have an attitude to take the challenge and provide the best for the situation as it demands. Beyond this, the successful candidate is expected to be multi-disciplinary, and is a multi-talented member of the technical team. The individual is expected to be a self-starter and a team player, with a strong drive for results and continuous innovations. The individual should be able to deliver work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as full-time developer in the team.
  • Ability to craft the medium-term technology strategy for the components in the architecture.
  • Mentor juniors in the team and help them to sharpen their technical finesse.
  • Ability to reduce tech-debt and have a plan to remove them from the system.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in a team to define, design, implement, test, release rollout and support software applications for PayPal.
  • Work with product owners to crystallize the technical needs during grooming and planning meetings.
  • Work with engineering managers, engineers & QA to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs w.r.t functionality, performance, reliability, realistic implementations schedules and adherence to development goals and principles.
  • Develop new team capabilities to ensure continued competence and relevance in supporting software development needs of PayPal's business.
  • Define and devise processes, tools and methodologies to achieve excellence in software development, testing and deployment.
  • Follow the team processes like Agile etc.

Job Requirements:

  • BE in Computer Science or Engineering and 4+ years related industry experience
  • Highly competent hands-on experience in the following:
    • Enterprise architecture/software design/implementation, particularly large-scale web-based systems (J2EE)
    • Java programming in Linux/Unix environment
    • OO-based analysis and design
    • SOA / Web Services, having knowledge in GraphQL is preferred
    • Having exposure in the ways of application development like web, IOS and Android (There is no need to have hands on experience in developing the apps but knowing how they work is good to have)
    • MVC frameworks such as Spring along with Sprint boot
    • Software design and development methodologies, including Agile
    • Source Control (GIT experience is an advantage)
    • Unit testing frameworks such as JUnit, Google Test
    • Database design and optimization (Oracle/MySQL)
    • Having working knowledge in high throughput document stores like CouchBase, Aerospike etc.
    • Scripting Languages (Shell, Python, Perl) would be a plus
    • Jenkins/Hudson, Maven/Ant, RESTs experiences would be a plus
  • Highly analytical, innovative, and able to think strategically and to develop comprehensive detailed specifications
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills; ability to produce clear, concise communications and documentation
  • Highly effective at working in cross-functional groups and getting results in matrix organizations
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities
  • Working knowledge of finance industry standards and practices preferred
