Job Description

Fueled by a fundamental belief that having access to financial services creates opportunity, PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL) is committed to democratizing financial services and empowering people and businesses to join and thrive in the global economy. Our open digital payments platform gives PayPal’s 210 million active account holders the confidence to connect and transact in new and powerful ways, whether they are online, on a mobile device, in an app, or in person. Through a combination of technological innovation and strategic partnerships, PayPal creates better ways to manage and move money, and offers choice and flexibility when sending payments, paying or getting paid. Available in more than 200 markets around the world, the PayPal platform, including Braintree, Venmo and Xoom enables consumers and merchants to receive money in more than 100 currencies, withdraw funds in 56 currencies and hold balances in their PayPal accounts in 25 currencies.

PayPal's Partners and Marketplaces engineering team is on a journey to conquer the business to business segment. This is an awesome market opportunity with the potential to bring thousands of new customers and billions of dollars in payment volume for PayPal.

We are an elite engineering group building the next generation of Partner products - if you are passionate about working on distributed systems, and JavaScript/REST is your forte, we want to talk with you. We work closely with the Design Lead, Tech Lead, and Product Manager to build a well-rounded experience. This is a very fast paced, highly innovative environment where people truly love their work and take pride in it. Our tech stack currently consists of REST API + React + NodeJS. We practice test-driven development and believe that it helps us deliver simple solutions focused on real customer needs. We have no QA -- developers test, release and monitor their own code. The team is in-sync with daily stand-ups and have regular retrospectives to discuss things that are going well and opportunities for improvement. We value unique perspectives brought by diverse backgrounds and experiences. A broad range of ideas and perspectives helps us to create the best possible product. We work hard and play hard.

About You

You will be instrumental in helping scope out both the near-term experience for our partners as well as the next generation of our platform, and craft solutions capable of delivering billions of hits every day. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy driving innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 10 years total experience delivering enterprise class e-commerce applications, with at least 4 most recent years working with React.js, Node.js, and REST/Java.
  • 5 years current experience building single page applications with popular JavaScript frameworks and libraries (React, Angular, Ember, Babel, Webpack, Underscore, etc.).
  • 7 years current experience building web services and SOA related standards like REST, OAuth, JSON, and SOAP/WSDL.
  • Design system architecture for high-concurrency, fault-tolerant, event driven services.
  • Familiar and comfortable with the technologies, the tradeoffs, and the design patterns emerging in web services.
  • Experience with HTML5, CSS3, Sass, Bootstrap, and cross-browser and device development.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented design and programming concepts.
  • A passion for quality and writing clean, solid, readable code that scales and performs well.
  • Strong desire to learn, push the envelope, and share knowledge with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities Include

  • Ability to go in-depth of the technology stack, across different technologies to understand end-to-end system workflow.
  • Architect solutions and execution through hands-on development, quality assurance, and prototyping.
  • Partner closely with Product to craft great customer experiences.
  • Participate and promote architectural initiatives, balancing long-term velocity with short-term customer needs.
  • Design and define REST API specs for high performance, scalability, and availability – actively participate in code reviews.
  • Extra credit: Provide your GitHub account or StackOverflow profile with your resume!
