Job Description

Fueled by a fundamental belief that having access to financial services creates opportunity, PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL) is committed to democratizing financial services and empowering people and businesses to join and thrive in the global economy. Our open digital payments platform gives PayPal’s 286 million active account holders the confidence to connect and transact in new and powerful ways, whether they are online, on a mobile device, in an app, or in person. Through a combination of technological innovation and strategic partnerships, PayPal creates better ways to manage and move money, and offers choice and flexibility when sending payments, paying or getting paid. Available in more than 200 markets around the world, the PayPal platform, including Braintree, Venmo and Xoom enables consumers and merchants to receive money in more than 100 currencies, withdraw funds in 56 currencies and hold balances in their PayPal accounts in 25 currencies.

What will be your key responsibilities:

  • Be the main point of contact for the Mexican Business Unit partners in the market to solve financial risk issues and be a voice for the seller risk team;
  • Identifying (via research, analysis, brainstorming) vulnerabilities / gaps / opportunities within the current seller portfolio of PayPal’s Risk controls - working side-by-side with BU and Operations partners;
  • Partner closely with our consumer risk partners to mitigate flash fraud attacks on large merchants through heuristic expert rules as well as data driven algorithms;
  • Communicate consumer risk and seller risk policies to Business Unit partners;
  • Establish proactive monitoring and timely mitigation of potential fraud attacks;
  • Based on the analysis, formulating a policy to ensure the optimal balance between user experience, business enablement, and loss exposure related to the planned innovations / improvements;
  • Partnering with Business Unit leadership to define the vision/strategy for the seller/merchant portfolio;
  • Handling escalations as needed;
  • Educating the Business Unit on Risk policies and capabilities;
  • Manage and develop an analytical person. This individual’s key performance KPIs will include Loss Performance, Revenue/Margin enabled, and Customer Experience.

What we expect:

  • Strong analytical skills: ability to build quick estimates using back-of-the-envelope analysis, structure (and, if needed, execute) more complex analyses, pull together business cases, navigate multi-dimensional sets of tradeoffs.  Above all, these roles call for comfort with data – ability to manipulate it, question its validity, interpret it, and develop recommendations based on it;
  • Ability to get up to speed on a new content area very quickly – PayPal is constantly innovating by introducing new products and going after new markets.  Team members are expected to continuously upgrade their understanding of PayPal’s risk exposure and to tirelessly innovate in developing and deploying increasingly surgical risk control approaches;
  • “Can do” attitude, team player, energetic personality, ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced ever changing environment.  Desire to learn and grow professionally is an environment that looks for and rewards achievement;
  • Knowledge of relational databases and data warehouse principles; Experience in SQL, SAS, and Excel or ability and desire to learn SQL, SAS, and Excel a must;
  • Ability to manage a large, diverse set of to-do’s – prioritize, stay on top of multiple workstreams and monitor progress;
  • Strong communication skills – a sense of appropriate communication mechanism/approach to use given context/circumstances.  Experience working with cross-functional, geographically distributed teams, managing by influence;
  • Comfort in managing through ambiguity, self-driven, and works well independently or with a group;
  • Experienced in managing relationships at all levels within an organization.
