Job Description Summary
PayPal is looking for a highly skilled and self-motivated Security Engineer to drive information security implementations and help design and build the next generation of security infrastructure for a distributed global ecosystem.


As a Security Engineer within the Security Platform Integration team, you will be focused on building and supporting security tooling and capability, and designing for the future.  The security engineer is expected to provide input on design and support of new services as well as optimization of existings services.  

  • Deploy, maintain, and enhance the security of EUC, server, and network systems through administrative, preventive, detective, and reactive controls
  • Ensure ongoing operation of systems/applications through troubleshooting, scheduling/monitoring jobs and technology-related business processes and automation
  • Evaluate, integrate, deploy, and manage security tools
  • Knowledge of Hypervisors, Operating System, Database technologies, storage, networking, and enterprise core services is required
  • Proactively assesses potential items of risk and opportunities of vulnerability in the infrastructure
  • Provide technical authority, vision, documentation of operational procedures and guidance for reducing and decreasing exploitable operational space
  • Provide security hardening of virtualized compute and networking environments 
  • Independent problem solver with troubleshooting, decision making and analytical skills with Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Organize lifecycle management for all server systems, keeping configurations consistent, current, and running optimally. Implemented system imaging and application delivery technologies for consistent, repeatable system configurations and user environments.
  • Partner with InfoSec Architecture Team to ensure alignment of all architecture processes, standards, strategies, and roadmaps reflective of established security standards
  • Provide technical engineering vision about virtualization technologies, and implement customized solutions to address complex environments.

 Required Skills                    

  • 5+ years administrating production operating environments in a 24/7 model
  • Experience with information security standards, best practices across multiple areas: cryptography, OS/instance hardening, network protocols and security, VPN, etc
  • Experience working in an environment with a CI/CD practice (git/Jenkins/etc).
  • Strong understanding of virtualization architectures
  • Understanding and knowledge of noSQL landscape and technologies
  • Experienced with administering MySQL and MS-SQL databases
  • Experience with container technology (docker/rkt), k8s is a plus
  • Experience and knowledge of L2/L3 networking and concepts
  • Ability to prioritize workload and shift attention among changing priorities
  • Must be able to work independently in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment with changing priorities

Desired Skills

  • Experience with PCI  and SOX controls
  • Experience working with Hardware Security Modules.
