Job Description We believe that a Scrum Master is the flywheel that enables our teams to go faster. As part of the team, you will be responsible for guiding the development of infrastructure domain teams into self‐organized, effective, development units with a sustainable cadence. You will develop a deep understanding of PayPal's infrastructure technology platform and will be a valued member of the team. You will bridge software development and traditional infrastructure concepts to enable high-functioning teams delivering IaaS. You will facilitate sprint planning, release planning, daily scrums, sprint reviews, sprint retrospectives, and other related Agile meetings. You will build a network between product owners, engineers, and program managers to develop, maintain, and refined the product backlog for your scrum teams. As an Infrastructure scrum master, you will be a member of the scrum practice area where you help define best-practices and principles that align across the organization. We believe in data and that you can’t fix what you don’t measure, so you will use metrics to continuously refine our execution practices and resource management capabilities. Your work will be showcased in front of our leadership as you communicate status on your scrum teams through regular reporting.

  • Roles & Responsibilities 

    • Nurture self-‐organizing, high performing teams through servant leadership and mentoring. 

    • Guide new and existing teams through the ‘Forming, Norming, Storming and Performing’ stages to reach and maintain ‘High Performing’ status 

    • Encourage, support, and guide continuous improvement of the team, its products and processes. 

    • Resolve conflict through arbitration, negotiation, reasoned discussion, or escalation. 

    • Willing and able to identify problems, impediments, dependencies, and other team dysfunctions, and then facilitate quick resolution. 

    • Facilitates the development process. 

    • Upholds, defends, coaches and mentors agile values as expressed in the Agile Manifesto. 

    • Maintain a close working relationship with appropriate Product Owners. 

    • Able to work with and represent a wide variety of stakeholders that need to work with the team. 

    • Collaborates and contributes to the greater Agile community in Infrastructure and the broader Technology, Platforms, and Experiences (TPX) orgnization. 

    • GuidesProduct Owner in developing, maintaining and refining the Product Backlog. 

    • Removes impediments/blockers to keep teams highly productive. 

    • Identifies and manages dependencies with other internal or external teams. 

    • Provides metrics and status to senior management and accurately represent status of the Scrum Team(s). 

    • Facilitates Sprint Planning, Release Planning, Daily Scrums, Sprint Reviews, Sprint Retrospectives, and other related Agile meetings. 

    • Establishes and facilitates Scrum of Scrums as needed. 

    • Guides the development of an Agile team into a self-‐organized, effective, development unit with a sustainable pace. 

    Requirements 

    • Thorough understanding of iterative software development to help teams implement the most optimal agile approach suited to the team’s needs. 

    • Complete understanding of Agile processes such as Scrum, XP, and Kanban to mentor and guide teams, experience should be progressively demonstrable through career path. 

    • Excellent communicator, able to gain the respect of the team, external stakeholders, and management. 

    • Skilled at creating a fully transparent development process that teams embrace, and all stakeholders gain visibility on how customer goals are being met. 

    • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills; must have facilitated team collaboration sessions such as Release Planning, and all Scrum Events. 

    • Proficient in promoting Agile engineering practices such as pair programming, continuous integration, TDD, BDD, and refactoring. 

    • Understand Agile metrics and reporting techniques, help teams adopt appropriate Information Radiators to show progress of all work at Sprint and Release level. 

    • Experienced in developing close working relationships with all levels of management, especially the functional managers of team members. 

    • Member of an Agile team for at least 4 years.
