SAS Admin/Data Engineer

Serve as the essential subject matter expert for IT personnel on all problems and matters involving the SAS server, including performance, tuning, troubleshooting, gathering and interpretation of diagnostics, capacity planning, training, testing, security and overall configuration, and function as a data engineer.

  • Perform SAS administration services including user support, job scheduling, code promotion, etc.
  • Review, evaluate and coordinate the installation of fixes, upgrades, enhancements, and other changes to the SAS environment.
  • Perform testing and quality assurance for all upgrades, enhancements, and changes to SAS software and related system, including new SAS releases, hot fixes, and service packs.
  • Schedule and coordinate all planned outages on the SAS server, and be the point of contact for unplanned outages or other urgent issues related to the SAS environment.
  • Serve as liaison to SAS Institute on all aspects of the SAS software, licensing, and cost matters.
  • Review and advise on annual renewal of licensing for SAS software portfolio.
  • Provide appropriate verbal and written communication to all stakeholders.
  • Have the desire and ability to branch off into other IT functions including sysadmin in the cloud, data integration with a variety of disparate systems, and programming in python.
  • Integrate with the Data Engineering Team, helping support overall analytics AWS environment:  Hadoop, Cloudera, SQLServer, etc.
  • Be Agile and ready to do what it takes to make data awesome at Paypal.


  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree Required with at least 5 years’ working experience in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • 3+ years SAS administration on Windows
    • Base SAS Software   (GRID NOT required)
    • SAS/STAT  
    • SAS/GRAPH 
    • SAS Integration Technologies 
    • SAS/Secure 168-bit 
    • SAS Enterprise Guide 
    • SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC Files 
    • SAS/ACCESS Interface to ODBC 
  • 3+ years RDBMS experience, stored procedures, data transformations.
    • (SQL server, T-SQL ideal)
  • Experience that will put you ahead of the curve:
    • AWS (any or all):    EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, SQS, SMS, CLI
    • Cloudera, Spark, Hadoop, Machine Learning
    • Python, GIT
