PayPal is a truly global payments platform that is available to people in more than 200 markets, allowing customers to get paid in more than 100 currencies, withdraw funds to their bank accounts in 57 currencies and hold balances in their PayPal accounts in 26 currencies The successful candidate will be a Data Engineer coming in on the ground floor of a new team for the First Line of Defense focusing on data and privacy. The new role will coordinate across the engineering and business groups, as well as the Compliance and the Technology Platform Experience teams. In partnership with the Data Steward and Data Architect, you will analyze existing Database platforms to work with data models and support ongoing Database initiatives. We are looking for someone who makes well-thought-out decisions on complex or ambiguous data issues. The successful candidate will interact with Product Managers, Engineers, DBAs, Architects, and subject matter experts in Compliance, Data Governance, and Privacy. We are focused on bringing in an experienced individual who possesses a strong level of data knowledge, business acumen, excellent communication skills, and superior problem-solving skills.

The Successful Candidate will:

  • Partner with the product and engineering, Technology Platform Experience, and Compliance organizations to
    • Design and implement new technical solutions, data integration strategies and data acquisition techniques building in privacy and compliance considerations
    • Manage the lifecycle for how data is disseminated across products and domains
      • Work closely with the Data Governance and Compliance teams to develop and document sensitive data workflows across platforms.
    • Identify areas for process automation and design solutions with a Privacy/Compliance mindset.
    • The candidate will create design artifacts, participate in design sessions, work closely with product & other non-technical staff, influence change and promote technical excellence.
    • Implement new or reengineered business processes and policies resulting in improved data management in support of privacy and regulatory laws. 
    • Design and implement new technical solutions, data integration strategies and data acquisition techniques.
    • Advise on analysis and reporting capabilities that will proactively monitor performance and data quality.
    • Responsible for solving issues and communicating resolutions.

Required Qualifications 

  • 3+ years of proven experience in the design, development and deployment of end-to-end data pipeline solutions including data processing (Batch, Micro-Batch, Streaming), data preparation (ETL, ELT), data modeling (STAR, OLAP, MPP). Exposure to Hadoop, Oracle, MongoDB, Kafka, Couchbase. Exposure to Cassandra, GoldenGate, ControlM and Teradata
  • 3+ year of Business Intelligence Experience – i.e. Tableau 
  • Advanced experience working with SQL Server databases
  • Strong grasp of master data management, data quality monitoring and metadata management
  • Proficiency in data centric shell scripting, ETL, Python, and/or .NET Programming skills
  • A comfortable and confident communicator with technical staff but also able to speak with customers concisely to translate technical concepts into business terminology and impacts
  • Exposure to continuous integration implementations that utilize DevOps style tools (such as Jenkins, Chef, Docker, Terraform, etc.)
  • Proven team player with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced dynamic agile work environment
  • Has previously supported a metrics-driven data culture to drive accountability and transparency
  • Passionate problem solver and motivated self-starter including ability to analyze situation and recommend sound solutions and implementation strategies
