The PayPal Core Payments organization is looking for an exceptional Principal Architect. We are looking for a passionate and skilled architect to design high performance, low latency and scalable Payments systems. Strong technical capability, commitment, common sense, passion for delivering high quality products, intellect, and great people skills are at the top of what we’re looking for. Serving as a technology thought leader, you should have a track record for promoting innovation and delivering and supporting software in stringent 24x7 environments, especially for large web operation. Responsibilities

  • Communicate and negotiate with cross-functional teams of Product Development, Product Management, Business Development, Engineering, Quality, Release, and Operations.
  • Partner with business and product leaders and other engineering leaders across PayPal to ensure strategy and roadmaps effectively support market needs.
  • Work with engineers, team leads, leaders to identify the gaps in service needs that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules.
  • Develop thought-leadership on the Payments Platform.
  • Stay abreast of industry technologies and trends.
  • Mentor the team and develop the next set of leaders. Constantly raise the bar on how we collectively perform.
  • Identify project risks, quantify risk/benefit ratio and provide alternative solutions as well as risk mitigation. Offer deep defect root cause analysis and root cause solutions.




Job Requirements

  • 10+ years of engineering experience.
  • Ability to come up to speed quickly and a strong aptitude/passion for creative problem solving when dealing with ambiguity.
  • Strong understanding of the payments industry and the e-Commerce landscape, particularly in the online payments.
  • Knowledge and experience with REST API, XML, Java EE, and web services.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented design and design patterns, and programming skills.
  • Experience with programming languages, especially Java.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with business owners and peers (onshore and offshore) across teams.
  • Define and establish an engineering culture with focus on quality. Actively participate and guide team in code reviews, automation design and development, test code development, and testing approaches.
  • Self-motivated, positive-thinking, team player, leader, partner, problem-solver.
