This position is part of PayPal's Core Platform and Infrastructure organization. We deliver a seamlessly scalable, exceptionally efficient, highly reliable infrastructure and services platform in a hybrid cloud environment. The infrastructure / IaaS organization designs, delivers and operates large-scale private and public cloud infrastructure for PayPal development and production environments. This is one of the largest hybrid cloud infrastructures in the world and runs on multiple technology stacks.


The successful candidate will be an innovative technologist and software engineer with a proven track record of building and creating IaaS software which operates at massive scale. The candidate will have a passion for automating cloud and infrastructure management.  He/she will be expected to have a solid background in all aspects of IaaS software development, infrastructure automation and cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will be able to influence the engineering culture of the infrastructure organization and provide technical leadership as the organization transforms and embraces infra-as-code paradigms, self-service IaaS experiences and a micro-services approach to building infrastructure automation.  The successful candidate will be a thought leader who will influence and engage peers, partners and senior leaders in the company on the direction of the IaaS and Cloud journeys.   Attention to detail and a passion for software quality, along with the ability to create and innovate will be crucial.  The ideal candidate will be experienced in working in cross-functional teams while being a hands-on contributor. He / she will have the technical knowledge and people skills to mentor and influence IaaS engineers throughout the organization while fostering a collaborative working environment.

Job Requirements:


  • Passion to create IaaS software for large scale cloud environments.
  • Interface with internal engineering teams, customers, and partners.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and architects throughout the company on the direction and best practices of software engineering
  • Get involved at a hands-on level designing and writing code.
  • Work with engineering team on detailed technical design.
  • Have a vision for IaaS engineering and the communication/leadership skills to influence leadership, stakeholders and individual engineers towards this vision.
  • A Positive "can do" attitude with the ability to articulate thoughts and ideas and see them to fruition

Technical Skills:

  • Strong Software Engineering background is required
  • Overall 10+ years of experience in Software Development for Large Scale Production
  • Experience in building large scale performant distributed systems with RESTful micro-services.
  • Programming experience in Go & Java
  • Deep hands-on experience in developing software for cloud and cluster management
  • Deep hands-on experience with clustering technology such as Mesos and Kubernetes
  • Deep hands-on experience with Containers is a must.
  • Prior experience with Public Cloud Providers such as AWS, Azure and GCP is required
  • Prior experience with OpenStack, VMWare or Nutanix is preferred
  • A solid understanding of Systems and Networking engineering is preferred
  • Datacenter network and network security domain knowledge/experience is desired.
  • Knowledge in one or more data technologies like NoSQL, Kafka, or MySQL is preferred
  • Working knowledge of messaging and building distributed systems
  • Knowledge of application and infrastructure security hardening.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors and/or Masters in computer science OR related field of study
  • 15+ years of solid Software Development experience with proven track record
