The Payments Business Analyst at PayPal is responsible for leading our day-to-day efforts to manage payment operational needs as well as to improve our operational processes. The individual in this role will be our on-the-ground liaison to local partners (acquiring banks, processors, gateways) to ensure payments run as smoothly as possible in the Latin America region with the goal of ensuring that our merchants and customers have a best of class experience using PayPal.

The Payments Business Analyst at PayPal is responsible for leading our day-to-day efforts to manage payment operational needs as well as to improve our operational processes.  The individual in this role will be our on-the-ground liaison to local partners (acquiring banks, processors, gateways) to ensure payments run as smoothly as possible in the Latin America region with the goal of ensuring that our merchants and customers have a best of class experience using PayPal.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage weekly (at minimum) operational review meetings with internal and external partners, focusing on ensuring that all responsible parties understand the problems, have a plan to resolve them, and make commitments with dates to make necessary fixes.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to fine-tune existing payment processes, investigate issues as they arise, identify any bugs that need addressing, and drive and track issues to resolution.
  • Own, analyze and resolve payments issues from identification to final resolution in a systematic and timely manner.
  • Work with Payments Analytics and Platform Owner to create, monitor, and maintain payment operational performance metrics and report findings therein to wider LatAm Payments team.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to lead optimization opportunities related to payment conversion, customer experience, and cost.
  • Support launches of new payment options, onboarding of new vendors and releases of new functionalities.
  • Contribute requirements, support and insight to create world class products and processes, to correctly and efficiently operate a global online payment platform.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Experience working with transactional systems, processes or analytics in a financial services or technology company - in a support, management and design or operational capacity preferred.
  • Previous exposure to e-commerce, online payments (global and local).
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills including the ability to interpret large structured data, develop recommendations and analysis.
  • Knowledge of SQL and tools such as Tableau or other statistical/reporting packages preferred.
  • Self-motivated, work well both independently and as part of an agile team.
  • Curious about payments and wanting to understand the root cause of problems and drive solutions to those problems.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Composed, poised and professional demeanor in all situations.
  • Willingness and ability to learn, be challenged, and do what it takes to achieve goals and complete tasks.
  • Fluency in both Portuguese (Brazilian) and Spanish (Mexico/Latin America) as well as English.
