PayPal’s EMEA litigation department is looking for a highly motivated and experienced UK qualified Litigation Paralegal to join our legal department (which handles a lot of novel and fascinating legal issues). You will be based in Dreilinden, at the south-western border of Berlin. Reporting to the Head of EMEA Litigation, you will assist in all aspects of litigation (including case management, factual investigation, support of in-house legal counsels to resolve routine legal issues, billing and file management) as well as closely work together with other legal and business units in the PayPal organization.

UK Qualified Paralegal (m/f/x) based in Berlin

A typical day will include:

  • Support EMEA Litigation Team in case management in the EMEA region, including factual investigations and compilation of information in relation to court claims
  • Handling of small claims (with a focus on UK), both independently as well as together with outside law firms
  • Reaching out to relevant internal stakeholders for additional information, eg. Brand Risk Management, Merchant Risk Ops, Compliance, etc.
  • Assist with the drafting of defense written submissions and witness statements
  • Willingness to testify as a witness in user claims
  • Support team projects and processes - contribute to process improvement and implementation
  • Responsible for the onboarding of new team members within area of responsibility, act as a tutor for colleagues in the administrative field and introduce new team members to internal administrative processes
  • Maintain legal database in English language (summary of court claims, status update, short description of the reasoning of a judgment etc.)
  • Handling of standardized processes under the supervision of an attorney (e.g. opposition to payment orders, settlement agreements for user claims, garnishments)
  • Maintain internal litigation calendar and deadline-tracking for all assigned matters
  • Budget and forecasting
  • Creating reports, metrics, presentations, gathering information and preparing statistics
  • Billing and file management

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree from a reputable university or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a legal executive or paralegal
  • Previous experience working in private practice or in-house legal department desirable
  • Computer literacy is a must and experience with customer service tools a strong plus
  • Team-Player with a strong work ethic, excellent interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills in a multicultural environment
  • Flexible and can multi-task, prioritize projects and manage deadlines
  • High autonomy in day-to-day work
  • Full fluency in English is a must, fluency in German and other languages in the EMEA region will be a plus
