Reporting to the Global Head of Content Creation and Innovation, the Newsroom Editor-in-chief will help build a best in class content newsroom, looking at all the channels to create meaningful connections though storytelling for our audience. This role will also work closely with business units across PayPal, including Go-To-Market teams, Integrated Marketing and Brand.

The Newsroom Editor-in-Chief will work within the PayPal Global Content, Communications and Engagment team and across Corporate Affairs and Employee Communication teams to innovate on the way we engage in the digital era. This role will be critical in helping strategize content distribution and engagement for consumers, merchants, employees and media.

In this position, the Editor-in-Chief will help institutionalize content publishing as a core engine of our PR and marketing mix. In addition, the role will work to help socialize employee and corporate stories externally and help set the strategy for partnerships with journalists.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with the communications, employee, marketing and channel teams globally as well as the content creators to define the content roadmap for their segment
    • The content journey for the target audience
    • The content needed for every phase of the journey
    • The optimal channels for the content
    • The global applicability of the content
  • Collaborate on social campaign strategy and planning, from idea to execution
  • Perform social audits, audience analyses, social listening, and competitive audits 
  • Create POVs and channel best practices, content calendars, social trends reports, influencer marketing plans, and paid social plans 
  • Work with media buying partners to execute paid social plans 
  • Brief content team on social campaigns and content needs
  • Demonstrate passion for video strategy, with working knowledge of video production

Skills:

  • 5-7 years of experience in a newsroom, agency, corporate and/or media environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, advertising, marketing, PR, journalism, or related field 
  • Experience with social platforms and working with vendors is a plus 
  • Experience guiding teams in campaigns across many platforms
  • Strong project management
  • Background in editorial planning
  • Experience creating long-term social strategies that have been executed over a multi-year period 
  • Ability to create and articulate a unique philosophy and approach to social media marketing 
  • Case studies with proven success of social campaigns that you have led and/or executed 
  • Deep understanding of channel behavior across all social platforms, from Instagram to Reddit to Twitch to TikTok to LinkedIn and beyond 
  • Passion for and experience with primary and secondary research and data

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working with brands with all budget levels and companies with robust social capabilities
  • Experience in content creation
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of data and synthesize key points clearly, succinctly and quickly.
  • Experience working with world-class brands.
  • Ability to achieve results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often on short deadlines.
  • Superb communications skills, including writing, verbal and editing.
  • Must be able to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution.
