PayPal's Xoom business unit is looking for a Network Engineering Manager to tackle some essential technical opportunities while leading a Network Operations team to provide “best-in-class” services and support of all Xoom's Network technology. The Network Operations team handles all support requests, incidents, issues, and architecture to ensure flawless and high-quality delivery of Technology services for Xoom's network infrastructure. This is a critical role requiring a highly dedicated individual who can take ownership and provide procedural and technical support to various internal/external cross-functional teams and stakeholders. The Network Engineering Manager is a highly motivated leader focused on operational efficiency and disciplined processes that support multiple production, pre-production and development environments. This role has leadership responsibility for a team of Network Engineers supporting a highly-evolved leading-edge infrastructure, with an Agile process meeting the business needs.

As a Network Engineering Manager within the Infrastructure Engineering team you will be focused on building and supporting the network infrastructure, and designing for the future.  The Network Engineering Manager is expected to provide input on the design and support of new services.  

  • Lead and work as part of the NetDevOps practice to scale core infrastructure services such as Cisco network devices, IDS/IPS, F5, Cumulus, and firewalls
  • Defining essential technology services KPIs and developing a regular executive success measurement reporting cadence – Good communication and ability to message tactically and strategically a must
  • Collaborate with engineering and other teams to scale and secure bare metal, virtual, and container infrastructure
  • Foster your team into automate tasks and provide documentation for tools and processes used to support these services within our existing NetDevOps framework
  • Help integrate and implement systems monitors to our monitoring framework
  • Participate in a rotating pager duty and be an escalation point for Network events
  • Coach and mentor the team, continuously improve – Make things go, and go faster
  •  Serve as a consultant and mediator for technical challenges
  •  Manage vendor relationships for our network supplier

Required Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in an IT / Technical Operations environment leading technical teams
  • 7+ years of experience in a hands-on Network Administration/Engineering role with a focus on Cisco technology
  • 5+ years of UNIX or Linux system administration
  • 3+ years of Datacenter management and support experience preferred
  • 3+ years of Project management experience in the creation and design of medium and large-scale systems — Strong understanding of client-server software, networking components, server architectures, performance bottlenecks, network infrastructures
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization architectures is a plus — Strong understanding of VPN technology as well as DNS, SMTP, FTP, and WWW protocols. Proficient with BGP, OSPF, HSRP/VRRP, VLAN's, STP and other routing protocols
  • Deep understanding of network architecture and design with an emphasis on Wide Area Ethernet, Internet, Desktop Computing, and Cloud technologies
  • Experience and knowledge of managing multiple remote sites over high-speed WAN circuits
  • Experience with network sniffing, bandwidth monitoring, advanced network troubleshooting tools
  • Have extensive knowledge on implementation of management and process definitions
  • Network maintenance, issue resolution, and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Must be able to work in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • CCNP certification is a requirement
  • CCIE and CCVP certification is a definite plus
