As an engineer in our development team you will be responsible for the development of key building blocks of Helpcenter We are looking for software engineers who are curious, fast-learning, and versatile , to join the team working to develop the next-generation of SelfService solutions that will change how billions of users self resolve issues. Helpcenter is the major contributor to help customers to self resolve the issue. You will work closely with product, architects and other teams to understand the business needs and deliver solutions to meet their needs. At PayPal, we work together on small, collaborative teams. The Help center team is responsible for finding better ways to get the right help content to delight PayPal users. The code you contribute will be part of the PayPal Consumer app found on the IOS app store. And did I say this is all 100% new development work?

This position is available at our Austin, TX campus.

Day to day:

  • Work with product and design teams to develop new ideas and explore new opportunities. Your opinion matters and you’ll have opportunities to have a say in how things are built out.
  • Experience building UI/UX without the use of Storyboards or Nibs/Xibs
  • Understanding how to abstract concepts in code to accommodate building for N rather than 1 or 2 targets.
  • Architect and build your projects using Swift 5 and above and some Objective-C/C.
  • Write code that is designed to be reusable and that can be shared amongst other teams. This includes understanding which pattern is the best for doing so for a given job. 
  • Experience with localization and internationalization. 
  • Experience working with notifications and background tasks in apps.
  • Familiarity or at least some experience with animation in iOS
  • Experience with rounding corners, view and text shadows and other UI/UX polish in applications you’ve built or worked on.
  • Experience building embeddable software development kits for others to consume, as well as having knowledge about the pros and cons of SDK development or have some pretty good insight about what might be important here
  • Bring product and code improvement ideas to the team.
  • Be willing and able to learn new technologies and programming languages when the need to do so arises
  • Mentoring less senior engineers on the team in a manner that helps them grow by sharing your experience and wisdom in a way they can understand
  • Working with other teams and helping to set expectations and boundaries for your team
  • Experience with making REST calls over the network and ideally experience with GraphQL. Extra points for having done all this from within a mobile app.
  • Experience with JavaScript, either in a browser or server side environment such as NodeJS

You:

  • Care strongly about developing amazing user experiences. 
  • Ability to see, notice and address visual inconsistencies such as unequal or insufficient padding, inconsistent shadows and other UI minutiae that are insignificant alone but add up to a lackluster presentation when combined.
  • Comfortable working with Xcode, Interface Builder, Objective-C/C++ and Swift.
  • Excited about the opportunity to explore new technologies and programming languages when the need arises.
  • Able to look at a problem and understand how all the pieces should or could go together and use this knowledge to bring the existing project closer to fruition and success

Extra credit:

  • Experience playing with iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 as well as Swift UI and any of the new 2019 WWDC announced technology
  • Experience working with Core Location and MapKit (iOS) or Google Maps SDK.
  • Experience with Core ML (1 or 2) or other Machine Learning frameworks.
  • Experience with ARKit (1 or 2) or any other Augmented Reality frameworks.
  • Familiarity with working with images and image filtering in Android or iOS
  • Previous experience gamifying an application. 
  • Solid knowledge of popular JS frameworks and libraries (React, React Native, etc.). Understand core JavaScript concepts like scope/closures, the event loop and asynchronous callbacks.
  • Experience developing Node.js applications. You’re familiar with ES6/7 features and you’ve used Babel to deploy that code in production.
