Job description

  • Works with PayPal business units and Product Dev teams to design, develop and deliver data solutions on one of the largest data platforms in the world.
  • Contributes to the design and development of Data Solutions or Data Pipeline.
  • Spends most of the time developing Big Data Service Platform for solving various business requirements using Java and Big-Data technology(Spark, Kafka, Hive, Hadoop…) but also has experience & skills using ETL tools.
  • Excited to work with big-data, traditional and NoSQL Data platforms.  Java/ETL Code is well-commented and typically improves after one or more code reviews.
  • Produces code that is sufficiently supported by unit and regression tests for data quality and sustainable process.
  • Supports PayPal business units by providing data in a ready-to-use form to data analysts and data scientists for Business insights, predictive analytics, machine learning, etc.
  • Responsible for managing 1 to 2 data process applications, providing necessary support and maintenance activities.
  • Should be comfortable working in an agile environment and with cross-functional teams, should have appetite to learn and be flexible to pick up new technology

Job Requirements:

  • EE/CS or related majors. Bachelor and above.
  • 5+ years Java experience in software engineer or a similar role in large enterprise teams preferred.
  • Strong Java skills in software development
  • Strong software design skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Very good knowledge of Big-data Technology development
  • Good knowledge of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence Application Design & Development
  • Experience of both structured and unstructured data sets 
  • Good debugging skills with a solid understanding of testing practices.
  • Good understanding of database principles and SQL, beyond just data access
  • Good Understanding of version control systems, particularly GIT
  • Expert level knowledge on following technologies:
    • Java
    • Software Design
  • Intermediate level knowledge on following technologies:

  • Spark with Python or Scala
         
  • Scripting (Shell, Python, Java)
  • Database fundamentals (Oracle or Teradata)
  • Hadoop echo system
  • Elastic search
  • Intermediate level knowledge on following business domains is a plus:
  • Customer Service
  • Payments     
  • Merchant servicing
  • Ecommerce
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
