This is a strategic role focused on Small Business customers that will cover iZettle & PayPal Here mobile applications. As a technical leader of the android mobile team, you’ll play a lead role in developing mobile applications in collaboration with Product Owners, Architects, Designers and Engineers to create innovative solutions that scale to serve global customers. You’ll play an important role in designing and developing products from concept to launch. As a team, we support multiple platforms. We do frequent brainstorming sessions and welcome new ideas and diverse perspectives to conceptualize new features. We follow Agile methodologies to quickly iterate and deliver new features. The primary role of the Android engineer is to provide expertise in the design and delivery of software and infrastructure for PayPal's point of sale product. This person is a highly experienced technical expert, who understands the mobile application and payment domain very well, and is well versed in the software implementation. You will work with an agile team of engineers, product owners and architects in a fast paced environment to deliver key capabilities for PayPal in this space and win the market. We expect you to have a bias towards technical excellence and code quality and also bring in long term strategic POV on scalable architecture. 


  • Contribute to the design, development, and testing of features delivered on our mobile point of sale application.  
  • Ability to go in-depth on the technology stack, and across technical boundaries to understand end-to-end system workflow. 
  • Native Android app development and converting ideas, designs and requirements to concrete stable production builds
  • Designs and oversees solutions for specific use cases that provide frameworks, interfaces, and capabilities that can be extended and reused for future requirements.
  • Influence peers, juniors and seniors both within the immediate mobile organization and also influence and shapes ideas for the overall mobile development community at PayPal.
  • Work with product, project and engineering teams to deliver products that delights our customers need and on schedule.
  • Understand and implement Android design patterns
  • Collaborate with Engineering and QE to resolve defects and external customer feedback
  • Develops and communicates technical processes, standards and best practices within the small business mobile engineering team.
  • Works well within a team and contributes effectively to the success of the team and related teams.
  • Identifies opportunities for engineering productivity improvements or directions and evangelizes those successfully.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • At least 8+ years of software development experience with 4-5 years of Android development experience.
  • Thorough understanding of Android development with Kotlin and Java
  • Hands on experience with latest Android tech.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to lead a team of software engineers. 
  • Familiarity with continuous integration (Jenkins), release tools, release management, application monitoring through Firebase, mocking tools, build tools, Unit testing and automation testing.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Navigation Components, Dependency Injection, design patterns, and best practices of Android architecture design patterns.
  • Extremely comfortable with understanding and implementing client-side handlers for web services with REST services at the backend
  • Solid understanding of MVVM.
  • Thorough understanding of Android Studio and Github.
  • Bachelors and/or Masters in computer science OR related field of study
