The primary role of the software development manager is to manage 2-3 scrum teams, responsible for the delivery of backend services and APIs for PayPal products and related projects. This position requires background in software engineering, technical and people management. The successful candidate will work with other engineering managers to take care of day-to-day operations of a software engineering team and manage the quality delivery of programs within schedule.   


  • Manage global cross-functional team in software delivery, software maintenance and second line technical support.
  • Validating and managing project scope.
  • Project tracking, reporting and auditing.
  • Resolve project issues, communicate status and coordinate activities with peer teams across geographies.
  • Ensure successful implementation, integration, testing and roll-out of software.
  • Meet project milestones and timely release of software according to roll-out plans.
  • Enforce established processes, technical and QA standards.
  • Resource and project roadmap planning.
  • Team administration and staff development


  • Bachelor/Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related area.
  • At least 5 years of people management experience.
  • 10-15 years of professional experience with at least 5 years hands-on in some of the following areas:
    • High level programming language, e.g., Java.
    • J2EE, Linux/Apache development.
    • OO-based design and development.
    • Full-SDLC cycle, with large-scale live roll-out participation as a developer.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams across geographies and time zones is essential.
  • Effective people management and development skills at all levels, including strong capability in relating to technical staff
  • Comfortable with applying project management frameworks such as PMI-PMBOK and PRINCE2 as well people development concepts such as Situational Leadership
  • Strong verbal and writing skills; ability to thoroughly understand product specifications, and ability to relate these to product development activities.
