Commerce Services group within PayPal’s Omni Payments product organization is chartered to Onboard and enable tens of millions of PayPal’s merchants of all scale and help them grow their business. We are embarking on an ambitious journey to unify Onboarding and servicing experience for our merchants across our entities, such as: PayPal, Braintree, Hyperwallet, etc. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic hands-on software development manager to join us in this journey and lead and develop a team of highly agile and skilled software engineers to build state of the art and highly scalable web and mobile experiences to meet PayPal’s growth ambitions. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner, can go deep in the technical stack, not intimidated by a large codebase and thrive on using data to drive improvements in the software. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record helping in building customer facing products that involve web interfaces, mobile applications, external facing APIs as well as mid-tier and backend components based on distributed architecture. Business acumen, hands-on technology skills, positive work ethic and a collaborative mind set are the key to your success in this role. You will be working with various geographically distributed cross functional groups. Experience or awareness of the payments and/or ecommerce industry is a big plus.

The primary role of the software development manager is to manage scrum team(s) that are responsible for the delivery of world class web experiences, services and APIs for PayPal's customers. This position requires background in software engineering, technical and people management. The successful candidate will work with other engineering managers to take care of day-to-day operations of a software engineering team and manage the quality delivery of programs within schedule.

Job Requirements:

  • Attract, mentor, coach and retain top notch software engineering talent.
  • Manage team consisting of entry level and experienced senior level software engineers, conduct career conversations and performance reviews, and make compensation decisions.
  • Manage scrum team(s) responsible for the delivery of world class Web and Mobile experiences.
  • Partner with business units, product, program management, analytics stakeholders and cross-functional teams to build high quality world class software products following agile development practices.
  • Manage development and deployment in rapidly evolving technology stack related to highly scalable Web and Mobile applications.
  • Facilitate and drive key technology decisions with senior technology stakeholders.
  • Track business impact of features on a regular basis, and rely on performance data to make informed decisions about possible changes or improvements.
  • Focus on quality and efficiency, suggest and drive changes that lead to higher developer productivity and improve product quality.
  • Be a thought leader and build a culture of learning and sharing technology insights across the technology teams.
  • Bring innovation to the table that helps in improving the resiliency of products you are responsible for, sell your ideas and drive change.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering working through the full product development cycle from initial design to final product delivery.
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience, excelling at hiring, motivating, coaching and getting best out of people. 
  • Should have managed team(s) consisting of 10 or more software engineers.
  • Ability to build credibility with senior engineers and senior management; able to earn and sustain the respect of highly technical professionals. 
  • Demonstrated ability to create a supportive work environment for career and personal development. 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to grasp and convey complex product requirements or technical concepts.
  • Hands on knowledge of Web and/or Mobile software engineering related technologies; must be comfortable writing code in Java/JavaScript/Node.js/React/Dust.js/C++
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
