Manager for BigData Platform Team to lead Cloud Migration

  • The Big Data Infrastructure team within the Enterprise Data Platform Organization provides the infrastructure and platform for Data Scientists to Build, Test, Deploy, Schedule, Run and Manager their applications. The platform is now on-prem, predominantly on hadoop, and teradata with additional data stores like druid and elastic search. The team today manages more than 250+ PB of data across various systems. The team has been funded to move PayPal's bigdata ecosystem to cloud. We are looking to hire a leader who can form and lead a team out of India.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Seasoned hands-on manager with deep technical experience with an eye for hiring great talent
    • Work across internal customers in various geo-locations across the world
    • Form a team, who will redefine the resource provisioning process for BigData Applications
    • Work with product managers to define solutions for customers
    • Demonstrated ability to lead engineers with more experience
    • Proven track record of delivering things End to End.
    • Demonstrated ability to do career planning, and helping engineers grow
    • Rich experience of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations.
    • Execution Excellence and ability to get things done instead of pointing fingers
    • Collaborate well with other teams with a willingness for win-win discussions
    • Demonstrate Thought Leadership in influencing the team on technical decisions and problem-solving approaches
    • Build vs. Buy vs. Adopt: Cultivate awareness and opportunities for new & existing open source technologies; understand where & how to leverage them, or when its more appropriate to build from scratch.
    • Ability to handle conflicts
    • Puts organization ahead of their own interest
    • Ability to do design reviews and code reviews. Mentors other engineers by providing technical and business guidance
    • Should be highly motivated, results-oriented self-starter, who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, should have appetite to learn and be flexible to pick up new technology and deliver successful results with minimal guidance.

    Qualifications

    • 10+ years of Software Development experience with atleast 2-3 years experience being a manager
    • Experience with Infrastructure and Security a plus
    • Experience with BigData Applications like Dataproc, BigQuery, Teradata
    • Experience building large scale distributed applications a must

    Nice to Have

  • Experience in online payments and fintech domains is a plus
