The Seller and Partner Payments (SP2) team builds and operations a rich set of public-facing APIs to enable partners such as Facebook, Microsoft, and GoFundMe to process payments and move monies between multiple parties. The team owns the API, underlying services, and a strong partnership with PayPal’s payment platforms. The Platform team builds and operates the payments capabilities to ensure the Product team has the feature set it needs to provide rich payments APIs to our Partners. In this role the manager will: 1. Attract and hire world class talent to build out a world class API Platform team. 2. Drive a service operator first mindset in the team, ensuring the team and platform is operationally excellent and has clear processes and responsibilities for live issues. 3. Organize the team and development processes to continuously improve our development efficiency 4. Ensure strong partnerships with Payments, Merchant, and SP2 Product teams 5. Innovate on behalf of our partners to provide new capabilities, greatly simplify the platform, and drive down technical debt. Skills we are evaluating: 1. Ability to drive the hiring process, including sourcing 2. Strong understanding of SDLC in a 24x7x365 highly trafficked environment, including best practices for development, preventing service interruptions, and ensuring API quality 3. Technical and operational understanding of distributed systems at scale (monitoring, deployment, alerting, etc) 4. Excellent technical communications skills 5. Courage to drive the right thing the right way in the face of randomization Experience we require: 1. At least two years managing others including hiring responsibility 2. At least ten years software engineering experience in any role 3. At least five years of experience software engineering building backend services and APIs at high scale, availability, and resiliency. 4. Familiarity with PayPal’s APIs a plus, the more the better 5. Payments industry experience a strong plus
