You are applying for a position within Paypal Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). In this role you will be managing a team of SRE's focused on Paypal Consumer products. These are the Paypal products you most commonly interact with when you login to the website, the app, or even Venmo. 
 Our team of SRE's are passionately focused on ensuring the best Paypal customer experience by helping product development deliver new features to production with a high degree of quality and availability. Paypal SRE's relentlessly pursue the reduction of failed customer interactions by using the software development discipline to automate everything that we can, and instantiate good operational process in code.

A bit about SRE at Paypal:

PayPal SRE is a continuous engineering discipline that effectively combines software development and systems engineering to build and run scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SREs ensure that PayPal’s internal and external services have the world class reliability and uptime appropriate to our users' needs. We also ensure continuous improvement, while keeping an ever-watchful eye, preferably automated, on capacity and performance.

Paypal SRE is an implementation of the devops mindset which strives to use software engineering to build and run better production systems. Your team will write software to optimize day to day work through better automation, monitoring, alerting, testing and deployment.

In this role, your job will be to help the Consumer and Merchant SRE teams develop a new presence and culture within our Bangalore site. Our production development organizations in Bangalore are growing, and so is SRE's need to place reliability engineers in the same location as the developers we work with every day. You will be leading a new team of SRE engineers who will each be assigned to either our Merchant or Consumer product domains. These engineers will embed with the product teams they support to focus on improving the monitoring, availability, and devops maturity of those teams. As SRE's first leader within the Bangalore site, you will need to build strong relationships with other engineering managers, and work to ensure your resources are focused on helping them solve their most significant reliability problems.

A successful candidate will themselves possess many of the characteristics of a successful SRE engineer, but will also have the added ability to build and maintain strong teams. All SRE leaders are expected to possess a passion for solving our customers problems, and must be able to create a positive working environment for their team, always upholding Paypal's strong people management principals and values.


  • You have the desire to take PayPal to the next level. 
  • Proven multiple year track record of people management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong demonstrable knowledge of agile, and proven track record managing software development teams. (Knowledge of Rally/Jira a plus)
  • Demonstrable alignment to Paypal's core values of diversity and inclusion.
  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent practical experience.

  • Familiarity with load balancing principles, networking principals, database principals and other common technologies used by a massively scaled international website.
  • Strong debugging and problem solving skills
  • Established record working in fast paced changing environment, large scale applications across the stack
