Manager, Reputation Risk Management, with a focus on proactive and reactive media relations.

PayPal’s Reputation Management function is an organizationally critical team at the forefront of protecting and enhancing the company’s reputation.

This role, reporting to the team’s Director of Reputation Management, presents a unique opportunity for someone who possesses a passion for media relations and has experience in corporate communications and reputation management. We are looking for an experienced communications professional who excels at and enjoys media relations.

With a primary focus on proactive and reactive media relations and development of materials including messaging, blogs, etc., this role, an integral position on the team, will provide external communications planning and may support for PayPal’s, Legal, Global Governance, Risk and Compliance teams. This position, which will work cross-functionally with global team members, will also collaborate with PayPal’s People and HR Communications team to develop and manage and assist with external communications to support the Company’s core values of diversity and inclusion.

Top Responsibilities

  • Support the Director in developing and executing proactive and reactive media strategy and response on a range of internal groups on high-profile topics and issues.
  • Lead proactive and reactive communications initiatives relating to key Legal, Global Governance, Risk and Compliance initiatives.  
  • Collaborate with PayPal’s People and HR Communications team to develop and manage external communications programs that will appropriately support the Company’s core values of diversity and inclusion. 
  • Assist Director in proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks/threats to PayPal.
  • Serve as a key member of PayPal’s crisis and issues management team –playing a role in developing of strategy and hands on execution as events unfold.  Help to maintain select company communications plans, protocols, and messaging.
  • Support the Director, as needed, on the issues and crisis response program by tracking crisis events, assisting with monthly metrics, and evaluating new best practices. 

    Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of agency or in-house experience.
  • A passion for media relations work -- experience serving as a spokesperson and driving media relations strategy and execution – and building relationships.
  • Experience and willingness to pick up the phone and proactively/reactively work complex stories with top tier media.
  • Ability to manage high pressure situations and experience working on top corporate matters such as litigation.  Must have a track record of developing media plans, messaging and related materials under deadline pressure.
  • An excellent writer and communicator who is committed to simple, clear and creative ways of communicating.
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of data and distill key points clearly, succinctly and quickly.
  • Ability to achieve results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often on short deadlines
  • Well versed in social media communications and monitoring, with proven record of using top platforms to analyze data and trends.
  • Ability to think creatively and desire to push past the status quo.  
  • Must be able work independently and without direction as well as collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Sense of humor, patience and positive attitude.
  • Bachelor degree required; advanced degree preferred.
